So I really hated the looks of the EVGA GTX 970, but they have a great warranty, so I went with them, my build is black and red so the blue didn't go with it, so I decided to do something about it. To the store I went and got some Plasti-Dip! I waited a few days before doing anything because I was scared that I would break my GPU. I finally had the courage to do it.

Step 1: CAREFULLY! Taking apart the graphics card. This part took me over an hour because I was shaking so much because I was scared... On the second card it was easy, only 5 minutes.

Step 2: Take off the heat sink and fans.

Step 3: PAINT! I was using Plasti-Dip and it was more difficult than I thought, I kept getting air bubbles for some reason. The first GPU went AWFUL, it looked so bad, so I had to re-do it.

Step 4: Put her back together and put it in the case. I really think this improved the look of my build and I am very happy with it, even though I went through 4 cans of Plasti-Dip. Yes 4 cans because this was my first time ever spray painting and I was very bad.

Well let me know what you think about my first mod! I am very happy with it and will probably do more mods in the future, once I get better at painting and get some more ideas. Got any ideas that I could do, if so let me know. They do need to be easy mods though, and can't include stuff that you have to be 18 to buy, since I am still a minor.

the first few coats with plastidip need to be extremely thin, so it looks like a light powder

do that like 3-5 times until it looks pretty consistent and you can tart doing some heavier coats of paint

also it needs to be done somewhere there isnt too much wind or temperature changes

first time I used plastidip it also got bubbles, luckily with plastidip you can redo it as many times as you need until its right :)

Looks good but I probably would painted less of it. Makes it too blaringly red IMO.

I thought about that too, but it would take way to long to just do accents on it, and I don't think painting the whole thing is too bad because you can only see the side when you put it in the case, and who doesn't like a lot of red  :P

Looks nice!

If I were you, where the seam is on the side of the card, I would have painted one part black.

Excuse my MS Paint:

p8ay0JZ.png

Yeah I really wanted to do that, but my painting stills just aren't that great, and it would be very hard to tape off the whole GPU for that one area.
