I found a CPU and MOBO for sale on craigslist, dude lives like 1 mile from me!

 

CPU = Intel i7-965

 

MOBO = Intel DX58S0

 

150 For all of it, Im thinking its worth it

At that price, hell yeah.

 

I'd say it's a ripoff.

Used, at most, you would be getting an FX 8320 and a 970 board for that much. It is a really decent price considering how much they (X58 boards and CPUs) normally cost secondhand.

Personally, I would save a couple extra pennies bro. Although it sounds enticing You'd be better off getting an i5 and a mobo within the 200ish dollar range. Also at least when you get it new you can get a chance to return in case of any issues. :)

best case, he's like "sure". Worst case... 150 is a great deal still... very nice upgrade from what you currently have.

I agree, you can get a new i5-4460 + H97 board for about $240 that will be a lot stronger.

I don't get the excitement here. It's a seven year old chip and board, it's only a quadcore, it uses a lot of power, its Passmark is only a little higher than that of an i3-4370, the clockspeed is low, the IPC is worse than the FX chips we shit all over all the time here, I'm just not understanding the excitement here. That's an old system, who knows how much longer it has left before dying.

I agree, you can get a new i5-4460 + H97 board for about $240 that will be a lot stronger.

I could easily resell it for more tho
