Problems if I change components? - Win 10

Go to solution Solved by exhaustedbrit,

Hey there buddy.

If you are running Windows 8 or above without a legacy BIOS, the installation should detect a chipset change and reinitialize your driver stacks. Otherwise you will get blue screens loading into windows because the Z97 platforms use a different chipset to the AM3+ platform. Other than that, you should not encounter any issues but I would double check RAM compatibility with the board you choose to buy. Though nowadays memory controllers are nowhere near as picky as they were some 15 years back.

If I choose to upgrade my FX - 6300 to an I5 4690(k) and therefore also change motherboard.

Will I get any problems?

I have heard that I will get problems if I change motherboard and or processor.

You need to reinstall Windows most likely. If you have a retail licence, there will be no issues. If you are using an OEM licence, you have to buy a new licence.

OEM license is fine. No need to buy a new one.. You just call in and say your mobo died..Have never bought a retail license..

I am pretty sure that I have had windows 10 for more than a month.

Can I still downgrade to windows 7 and then upgrade back to Windows 10?

If I do this will It go back to what I had on windows 7? aka will I lose my new stuff?

Reinstall the Windows :(

What is OEM license?

So I can get H 97/87 and I will be okay?

Or will the other alternatives cause the same problem?

Is OEM license = Windows 7 license bought online?

OEM licence is an OS licence given/sold to manufacturers, so that manufacturers (for example Dell) don't have to use the retail licences instead.

These are not for sale for regular consumers, but a lot of OEM keys are just left unused, and can be found often on second-hand online markets and other sites which aren't officially licenced by Microsoft, like g2a.com. Technically Microsoft doesn't allow the resale of OEM keys, but they don't really regulate it in the slightest.

Additionally, OEM licences are tied to your motherboard (I think?), so you can't install the same key on another system unlike retail licence (though the former install will loose its' licence when the same licence key is activated on a new system)

Every place you can buy computer parts has oem license's. If there not forsale to regular consumers why can I walk into ncix right now and buy one? I dont know a soul that purchases retail copy's. Other then people who shop at bestbuy.

I guess my info is incorrect, if that's the case.

I'll edit my former posts so that people don't take misleading advice.

Yes you can indeed if you have Windows 8 as I mentioned.

When I changed my mobo to 990FX they just had me call.  Doing the same when the z97 gets here.

So all I need to do is confirm that I am myself?

Apparently authentication* goes into hardware ID now ( instead of strictly to HDD) which is nice if you want to change HDD or Ram , or anything else but the motherboard and CPU. so yes.. problems.

I didn't "exactly" buy my OS.

Will this change something?
