Get yourself a good motherboard that supports the maximum RAM for that socket and 2-way SLI...    It's better to have those features and not need it than the inverse.

Also makes for a little better resale too.

MSI Krait, ASRock Extreme3,4,5...  ASUS Z97-PRO Gamer
And whatever it is for Skylake... 
These are all good motherboards with my favorite being the ASUS.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

It matters, but just as long as you get a quality one from a name brand then you'll be fine as far as performance. Different boards that use the same chip sets tend to perform so closely to one another that features generally matter more. They are fast enough now that one percent difference isn't going to be noticeable in real life. Just go for a quality brand that has the features you want.

I prefer a fatherboard... but then again. A motherboard has more control over everything then a fatherboard

Z170 > Z97 > Z87

H170 > H97 > B85 > H81

B150 > B85

Right, branding doesn't matter, chipset itself does. (Please point out any mistakes in that thingy above)

Branding only matter if you get crap mobo like Biostar or ECS.

chipset does but the brand, not really.

Different chipsets have different features that don't necessarily impact performance for most people.

Moved to CPU's, Motherboards, and Memory.
