Word of God is Word of God.

The person who created the GIF format says it's pronounced "JIF"

Same with imgur, I say Em-jer

GIF with a 'hard' G (Like Graphics, because that's what the G stands for)

Imgur = Image-errr

no, you don't get to redefine pronunciations. It's 'Jiff', it's always been 'jiff', and the creator confirmed it. 'gif' sounds retarded. The way an acronym is pronounced doesn't have to rely on the words that compose it, it's based off of what rolls off the tongue, and what the intended pronunciation is. Stop being one of those people that spread this crap because you like it better, it's wrong, and you know it's wrong

Example- CERN, which stands for Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, is not pronounced 'Kern', it's pronounced 'Sern'.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

I thought the thread asked how I pronounce it, not how it it should be pronounced.

Eh the expression "How do you" I took to mean "what is the proper way" or "how does one"

However I'm perfectly ok with whatever the creator's intention is, it's his thread

I think it's just silly to pronounce it as 'jif' and just have a habit of saying GIF with a G as in graphical.

Personally I accept that the creator intended it like 'jif', but it seems a bit silly to me.

Also, with all the different languages and accents people have on the internet, you will always have people pronouncing stuff differently from others/'wrong'.

Well the hard just sounds stupid, and I didn't hear people pronouncing it like that until he past 5-6 years personally, though apparently everyone claims that everyone has used a hard G since the invention of fire.

I think about it this way- There are a lot of words starting with 'Gi' with the J sound, and a lot with hard G.

The word 'Gibberish', for example, sounds stupid with a hard G, and everyone I knew felt the same way about Gif. In fact, a lot of people, including me, didn't even know it was a  debate until recently. Every book and FAQ I ever read said it was pronounced 'Jif', hell even my copy of Compuserve did.

Of course every time I mention that somewhere, I get downvoted into oblivion. No one likes facts.

Oh, and compuserve are the first ones to introduce the format. Kind of important.

This has been established for years, and many on the interwebs forgot that, the creator chiming in didn't settle it, he reaffirmed it, calling out oxford for getting the pronunciation wrong. They then chaned it ina second edition to 'jif', then to both in the third after much, much bitching from people who are simply wrong factually. That's why people are so adamant on not rolling over and accepting in the hard G. Filthy casuals started that. xD

Gif - Hard G, like a sane human being.

Also, if you spell Jeff - Geoff then I'm going to pronounce your name (hard G) GeeOff, because screw you and I'm a jerk.

I say Imgur like "imager" since it sounds cool, and gif as both Gif and Jif(I say it the way you don't want to hear it, just so people dont bitch about it). Technically both ways are right, and the English language is wrong for being stupid and unnecessarily complicated.
