HELP Not sure what GPU to get.

LolSalad

Im currently looking to upgrade my GPU.

I have the hd 7870 sapphire

cpu i7 4770k

ram 32gb

I do play a lot of games and Edit 4k. I don't have a limit but want it to be the best bang for buck.

Please let me know what you guys think i should get. I need one asap.

Well if you mean gaming at 4k you want to go with a 980ti then, maybe 2 980's but i would say one 980ti, Check out the new MSI lightning that thing is fast.  4k is a tough resolution to run, but if you game at 1080p i would suggest a 970 to start

My Rig: i7-3770K, EVGA gtx980 SC, Asus P8-Z77 V-Pro, 2X Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD, 1X 850 Evo 1TB SSD, Corsair Obsidian 650D, 2X8GB Gskill Ripjaws, Seasonic X-850w PSU, Corsair H100i, 2X Asus vg248qe, Corsair Sabre RGB, 2X Corsair K95 RGB, Hyper X Cloud II

That is the amount of VRAM on the graphics card.  3.5 would be absolutely no problem for 1080p gaming, not enough for 4k though

I know this is one scenario, but this was done prior to the DX12 update.

I can find many more!

So, it's on par. Because stock 970 which techpowerup uses is REALLY down on the clocks, compared to any 970 that you can buy factory overclocked.

You amd believers always forget that every AMD card is on the thermal limit and it doesn't overclock for shit.

How can you call any of that beating or smashing. 970 uses half the power and is just as fast. It's still debatable which one is actually better.

I did. Same thing. It's not far above and the 970 is on stock clocks.

Also notice how FAR UP 980 ti is on every graph you posted.

notice the $615?

notice the $340?

now notice the price per FPS (Grid Autosport, 4k,full detail):

.10 FPS per dollar

now the price per FPS of the R9 390 (Same setup):

.16 FPS per dollar.

Which is more per dollar?

You have to be kidding. No one recommended 980. NO ONE.

Also nice job linking the cheapest 390 and the most expensive 980. Really put some effort into this.

980 ti the best card to buy at the moment IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT. OP has no budget so therefore 980 ti the way to go.
