College Advice

Guest Philosophy

Hey guys, I am going to college for Computer Engineering and Psychology (double major).

Computer Engineering I can get a job with a Bachelors no problem and it would be a decent one.

Psychology requires a Masters Degree for an entry level job in the field.

I am currently on track to stay in Law Enforcement, I am wondering if it right for me. I am good at it, but is that really where I can be the best version of me? Should I go where the money is at? Should I go where I have the most interest, or should I go with what I know?

Each route will change my college decision, I am on course to graduate in 2017 with dual bachelors, but I might change my course since as of yet most classes work for both.

I've been to a college councilor and my parents. They don't seem to help in the slightest.

from experience, i did a bachelor's degree in a field i had absolutely no interest in. i moved on to a graduate program i had no interest in. i did these things purely for potential monetary reasons. when it came time to look for a job, i had absolutely no interest in doing the work.

i recommend you follow a career path in which you actually enjoy the work. then, you won't hate your life. take it from me.

edit:

best of luck!

Why are you asking us to give advice on your career when most of us haven't done this and about 90% of this forum aren't at college age? Do what you feel is right for you right now forget the future, just concentrate on now and what you want. Planning for the future is pointless is you get hit by a bus tomorrow and die.

You know this place has a lot of great advise on things you'd imagine it did not.

I don't care if the person answer my question is 12 if they have something good to say. Sometimes I think this would have been a lot easier when I was 12, you think differently at that age. Sometime for the better. .

I think it is advise, I am not asking you to make the choice for me.

if youre taking psychology you should know better than to ask for career advice on a tech forum with 70% teenagers ;)

A 12 year old is not mature enough to start thinking about a career, sorry but here in the west, nah. And I 110% agree with @Enderman the choice is yours and you should do what you want to do right now, not what offers the best money and not what offers the best future because life simply doesn't work like that.

I know. Way different thought process you would be surprised at the advise I get from 6-10 year olds and how good it can be.

Really unsure why you think sticking a crayon up your nose is great advice but... okay.

Whatever you do, don't do it solely for the money.

A friend of mine went to college to become a dentist, and gave up after little over half a year.

I just started my bachelor Applied Physics (4 weeks ago), and enjoying it so far and I'm motivated to work for it.

I can't make the decision for you but if you can, I'd continu doing dual bachelors.

I say go where your natural skill set and interest align best together.

I'm sort of in the same boat, I'm doing Environmental Biology for the money and security but I struggle really hard with chemistry and Physics (both required just to get the BS in Science) or I could look into a few things with a much lesser guarantee of a job and money but where I'd be happier and better at.

Knowledge is power, guard it well.

Do what you like most.

If you truly enjoy your job, money is less of a concern.
