So, gonna be buying a new graphics card next month and was wondering which I should choose. Im leaning more towards the 970, due to the fact that I game at 1080p. Any suggestions?

meh, it really don't matter too much about 290x vs 390

unless the 390 is next door neighbor in price to the 290x

970, quiet, low power consumption, perfect for 1080p

290x, loudish, higher power consumption and temps but much more powerful then a 970

Buy a cheap-ass 290X on eBay and change the thermal compound. Price to performance king.

From past experience, changing the thermal compound on my Gigabyte R9 290 only made it one degree cooler...so take that for what it is worth

I'm looking at a G1 970 for $340, MSI Twin Frozr 390 for $330, and a Sapphire Tri-X 290X for $345--prices coming from NewEgg.

 

Of all of these the 390 is the best performer and it's the cheapest.

In my research I found they all have the exact same processor, so it's all a matter of getting the best clock speed, VRAM, and cooler for the money. That's usually the 390.

Yeah, I did some research on my own. I might try to get my budget up to be able to afford a 390x even. Looks like Ill go AMD again for a year
