Quiet mechanical keyboard

Go to solution Solved by ADFX_Pixy,

Cherry MX Blues, Greens, and Whites are loud switches since they have a click when actuating them.

Cherry MX Browns, Reds, Blacks, Clears, and Tactile (or) Linear Greys are the "quiet" switches with exception to the new Cherry MX "Silent" switches. I put quotation marks on quiet because since they don't have a clicking mechanism like the MX Blues, Greens and Whites. Most of the noise from these switches come from how hard the user bottoms-out their keyboard as well as the upstroke when the user releases the key and the stem springs back up.

You can get o-ring dampeners for your keyboard and that will dampen the bottoming out noise of the keyboard, but the issue with noise come in on the upstroke after you release the key. Looking at Cherry's new "Silent" MX switches, they fixed the noise issue on the upstroke as well as the downstroke so if you want to wait for that in the Corsair Strafe, go for it. Good luck and happy buying!

Probably red switches are the quietest, never actually tried them before.

nah, they're pretty loud. not as loud as blues though.

Is there such a thing as a near silent mechanical keyboard? (Or at least, membrane keyboard levels of quiet like apple's stuff) And any recommendations on them?

cherry mx browns are the quietest.

clearly you never tried them b4, their loud as FUCK

I've tried browns and blues before. I thought that they would be quietest because they are linear and they have the lowest activation weight.

The Cherry MX blacks i've got in my current keyboard are really quiet. I suspect that if i added O rings it might be near silent

reds are fine they are nearly silent, the sound youre hearing is you bottoming out on the plate... use reds or browns with some kind of dampener like o rings and it will be as about as silent as you can get

From this video they all sound about the same with the exception of blues of course.

Like @techswede said O rings can really help a lot. As long as you're not bashing the keys to death it should be fairly quiet.

every single cherry mx that I use are loud asf even with o rings....

Might be a difference in typing style then. I never bottom out so that might be it.

The main reason for this keyboard being quiet might also be that the keys feel solid. Compared to my old K95 where they rattled a bit

MX clear are nice and quiet but have to sit for a while after purchase, just get a good value keyboard and then some noise dampeners.
