I recently bought myself two gigabyte G1 Gaming 980ti's off of amazon for a new build, but then found myself almost panicking due to an article I read about the performance of Nvidia GPUs in dx12. My main concern lies within the same controversy that has been plaguing quite a few fanboys for the past few months, as I keep reading over and over in various articles that Nvidia hasn't shown off it's asynchronous compute function, and that it will be shown off later when dx12 is fully launched. I somehow finding myself doubting this as AMD probably pulled some shady stuff, mimicking what Nvidia has been doing with the past few triple A titles, like GTA V. I have a very strong feeling that AMD will be throwing a sucker punch right in Nvidia's face regarding dx12 and HBM all together. However, I just may be a misinformed consumer, but I would like to hear other people's insight into this topic. Also, I would like to know if I would be safer cancelling my order on my dual 980ti's and going with something along the lines of two air cooled furies?

it was one test

and "asynchronous computing" that caused nvidia GPUs to perform badly in that test are likely not going to be sued at all in other DX12 games

but not a lot of games will support DX12 at the start anyway, so even if AMD does have a marginal performance advantage its not going to be a big deal

The DX12 benchmarks are for one game, ONE GAME... Don't base anything off of them until there are more games released that have valid benchmarks.

Go for the 980tis.

Just one last time I am saying this

Maxwell has 31 compute lanes and 1 graphics lane - both cannot be used at the same time as the analog scheduler is not capable of it. Much like an i5 and an i7 - hyperthreading is not present on the i5 chip and thus the 900 series cards cannot accurately use it.

Fiji, Tonga and Grenada(Hawaii) have 64 compute lanes (8x8) and 1 graphics lane that can run at the same time.

A-sync is used and will be used in all future console-based games as the consoles are rocking AMD hardware. Hence why a good 60% of the devs will use it to make 1080p on consoles a thing.

I've said this before, the only reason I went for a 970 is because there was a good deal on and I wanted to get MGS:V, I didn't buy my GPU considering dx12 at all. This was before all this but whatever. buyers remorse :(

@don_svetlio I'm not really an nvidia fanboy, fanboyism(silly name) is just silly in my mind, why would you worship some company? At the end of the day all they want is your money.

Don't worry - your 970 is fine. It's going to be fine next year too. The only bad thing is it might not get as big of a boost as a 390. But MGS V is awesome :P

Tip from a panicking paranoid individual? Use it and enjoy it while you can!

Nvidia are pretty fucking shady, I mean 3.5GB, restricting OC on laptops, the whole game works thing screwing over AMD, doubling the speed of batman arkham knight promotional material to make it seem like it was running at a higher frame rate. But they did something cool today, 980 in a laptop is pretty freaking insane, I would love MSI to release another GT80 but this time 980 SLI with a brown keyboard ... Drooling just thinking about it, but it would probably burn my wallet faster than a CX series credit card .

That was probably my first dislike on a LTT video actually . . it was blatantly obvious that they were paid by Nvidia as the VR promotion was shady as fuck considering that VR *requires* HBM to have low enough latency to not cause nausea or any other form of ill effect. Most VR demos are ran on Fury Xs

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure that valve ran titans/980tis or something of that class for their vive and that's been proven by gabe that 0% of people get motion sick from the vive. At gamescom nvidia had a booth running vives so I would assume you dont need HBM.

VR tests were ran on a "unannounced AMD GPU" back before Fury X launched and I think it was on Fury Xs - consumer testing of the vive is not available yet IIRC.

Well it seems like LTT avoid AMD for the most part, I mean NCIX, I know linus isn't fully affiliated with them, i.e he doesn't run the yt channel anymore but they were only recommending 950 SLI's and 970's no mention of the 390 at all.
