What the different between running 2 drives in raid 0, than running both drives and using both drives simultaneously? I just like everything in 1 partition for convenience's sake. but just wondering, cus i dont really care if my drive fail, ill just buy a new one, data isnt important for me cus its mostly games on steam

It's "dangerous" for data that's precious to you, as if one of the drives fail the likelihood of recovering the data afterwards is very low.

What he means to say (I think) is that even using two single separate non-raided drives, isn't the risk of both dying the same?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It is dangerous because if 1 drive dies, you loose ALL your data. I used to run raid0 for the speed, then backed up daily which is a good method.

But if there isn't anything you mind loosing then I guess running raid0 is fine.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

RAID 0 works great for your OS/applications, but any data you have on it should be backed up to another drive/system as well. If the drive craps out, you can re-install all the os and programs, but you cannot retrieve any of your documents, pics, movies, etc unless you have them elsewhere.

When in doubt, re-format.

OP - this part is the most important.

Like said before raid 0 is only risky if a drive fails, but you have to look at in in reality..... if your running raid with 2 GOOD brand ssds, the likelihood of either of those drives failing is really low. I personally have a 4x500gb 850evo raid for a single 2tb drive once your in the OS. Im not worried 1 bit about drive failure. Just dont get shit brands just cause they are cheaper (there is a reason they are cheaper).... my OS loads in about 5 sec from press of the power button. IMHO.... unless your doing network, or storing critical data, EVERYONE should be runni g raid 0

I am the total opposite. Every drive in my PC runs at minimum raid 1 (Except OS/Scratch Disks). All my NAS Drives/Servers are in RAID 5,6 or 10. Occasionally raid 50/60 can work.

I also have a bunch of backups running constantly.

Data corruption chances with raid 0 are significantly higher than a single drive or other raid configs, so no thanks, and I'm not talking about if a drive fails
