Budget 4k gaming

Strom

I'm Linus from Finland and i'm going to build a 4k gaming rig to replace my old laptop that i've been using for gaming for years. My build is here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ksygMp and im asking your thoughts about it. My budget is about 1500€ and this build costs about 1750€ in Finland so i'm thinking buying parts from Germany because there this costs about 1550€. I love the style of NZXT s340 so i don't want to change it but everything else is not locked. I want to think about future and thats why mobo has sli and crossfire and dual BIOS and power supply has room for another GPU. I want to hear your toughts and comments (:

I'm Linus too. (:

Problem is that he is in Europe so everything is about 10X more expensive...

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Are you including the monitor?

Budget is an specific amount of money to spend, here OP said it's 1500€, which IMO is enough for 4k.

Depending on what you are expecting to do with the system, there are different configurations. For most games, at 4k even a R9 290 can be enough. MMOs, Mobas, and many FPS out there don't need the top end hardware to run at 4k, even with highish settings. I'm not sure if Linus did a video about this (I think he did), but most mainstream titles, and games using mid settings aren't that demanding at 4k like people think it is, you don't need dual Titan Xs.

For games more intense I'd go no lower than a R9 390X, which IMO I think it's the best value GPU for 4k.

If i add another 390 for crossfire in the future would that be a decent for gaming for example Cities Skylines in 4k?

Something like this is a good base to begin with. And you can do all sorts of modifications to the list.

Main part here is the monitor, this is the LG 27" IPS 4k FreeSync monitor people was talking about not too long ago. It's discounted on Ebuyer (if that's a merchant available in your region), and IMO it's an amazing deal.

The core of the system is simple, a case+PSU that doesn't suck, a i5 4690k, a Z97 board that has the basics, a cooler good enough for OC (you can of course get a better one if you want), 8GB of ram (go 16GB if you are going to use it), a 250GB SSD (an SSD is a must in today's build, min 240GB, 128GB is just too small), and a 1TB hard drive for games (go 2TB+ if you want). This sums up for a not that expensive, yet very capable system.

For the GPU I went for the MSI R9 390X, which I think is one of the best 390Xs out there, the cooler on it is quite beefy (mind you, it's a two and a half slot card), quiet yet cool, good enough for OC, and most important, takes good care of the VRMs and memory, with heatpipes contacting them and going directly to the rest of the heatsink.

Cities Skylines does get really heavy at 4k, you can run it with a single 390X, but with the settings on the mid side TBH.

The problem with dual GPUs is scaling, take some time and research if the games you play support Crossfire (or SLI if you go with Nvidia) properly. Even recently released titles still optimize little for multiple GPUs, so do some homework about it and check if everything is ok.

Another good option for the GPU is going with the GTX 980Ti, which makes for a safe choice at such a high tier. Dual R9 390Xs will perform better if Crossfire is supported decently on the game. Also a reminder, some games that get heavy with modding, sometimes aren't able to take advantage of multiple GPUs, I experienced this myself with skyrim, where the mods I was using weren't carried by the second GPU.
