For 4k and 1440p the 390x's would be my vote.

SLI 980. When single card is working the 980 outperform 390X. Here is the proof.

CPU: i7 5820K Motherboard: MSI x99A SLI PLUS RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2800mHz (4x4gb) GPU: MSI GeForce  GTX 980Ti Case: NZXT S340 Storage: 840 Evo 120gb and WD Blue 1TB  PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850W CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock 3

That's a bit like asking a Porsche or a Lamborgini what performs better at the 100km/h speed limit? The Lambo of course but it doesn't fucking matters at that speed: it doesn't matters at 1080p both set ups are exceedingly capable and even overkill at that resolution

So do get SLI or Crossfire only if you plan on 4k. And it should be close but slight edge on the 980 on some games, that might change with DX12 games but we're not sure until they're out.

What power supply would i need to be comfortable with an r9 390x CF

A 1000 watt would be optimal.

This power supply is built by superflower

It's a tier two psu with a *5 year warranty, I'm also thinking about doing a crossfire and this is the psu I'd go with.

For 1080p a single 390 (non x)

For 1440p CF 390 (non x) or single 980Ti

For 4k CF 390 or SLi 980Ti

I just cant justify the price of 980's vs the other options, same as the 390x's, CF 390 will out perform the 980's at 1440p+ and cost less, the difference in performance compared to the CF 390x's is very small and the price difference is rather big.

Just my opinion.
