7950 Dying - Equivalent Replacement

I purchased the MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5/OC in 2013. It has recently acted up on me, I get random black screens in League of Legends and StarCraft II when everything else on my system is still running; I still get game audio. I ran GPU-Z for temperature logs to when it happens and it ranges from 52 to 67 degree celsius when it happens (ambient temp is 27).

 

I played a game of League of Legends just fine using the Intel HD3000 GPU and also on an old GTX 460.The 7950 gave me vertical stripes within 2 minutes of a game launching and it was on medium settings with a 7950!

 

I'm merely looking for an equivalent replacement or so because I haven't purchased a more demanding game (bought it to improve my Skyrim experience) since the time I bought the GPU. Currently running 1080p, may upgrade to 1440p but I asked around and it seems the 7950 would have been able to handle it. The rest of my system is

• Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K @ 4 GHZ
• Motherboard: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z
• RAM: 2 x 4GB G.SKILL Sniper Low Voltage
• PSU: Seasonic X750

Looking for options <$225.

You should get a GTX 960, solid replacement.

For starters @roninmedia follow your thread..

 

280 is a refresh of the 7950 so it is essentially identical

 

280x and 380 would be in your price range for an upgrade

 

Or if you are daring, you can easily get a used r9 290 around your budget.

If you wanna save money and get something that'll smash the games you're playing I'd consider a 950 or 960 / 380. However the 950 is a great option and with MIR is only around 150.

You should get a GTX 960, solid replacement.

This. though I went a tad further and got the 4GB GTX 960 G1 Gaming card myself

From your post.....You have not fully diagnosed the current card (or just have not mentioned it)

 

Whats to say your next one won't do the same if its not the GPU causing the issues.

R9 380... Maybe look into finding a used  970 or r9 290 for around that price..

Buy two for Crossfire.

Or a 2nd hand 290x.

Did piece meal testing and then played League of Legends fine with the iGPU and then a GTX460.

I say get a 280X(if you find) but if not then R9 380!
