Is maths broken?

So question differentiation. 

 

S  = 2ln(t) 

 

differentiate: 

dS/dt = 2/t

 

BUT....

 

S  = 2ln(t) can be written as:

 

S  = ln(t^2) 

 

differentiate:

dS/dt = 1/t^2 (this one seems iffy) 

 

which one is right? 

 

EDIT: I'm just being an idiot and forgot to do the chain rule..

The amount of maths done in Schools is broken. Either that or the education system in a lot of countries.

You did the chain rule wrong. dS/dt = (1/t^2)(2t) = 2/t. Don't forgot to also take the derivative of what's in the brackets.
