Asus R9 Fury vs Sapphire R9 Fury

Id recommend Sapphire fury, its better in all aspects but power consumption. Mine comes this Saturday, bought it for 549$.

I'm looking at buying an R9 Fury and I need some help on which one to buy. Since there is only two types of Furys this should be pretty easy.

 

First question, do both of them have custom PCBs? I'm pretty sure the Sapphire doesn't but I could be wrong. 

 

Second, do any of you know if the Sapphire sags? 

 

Also one more thing, I'm sort of leaning towards the Asus because it's pretty much fully made with machines.

almost same perf as 980ti

and then we have dx12...

Why not get a Fury? It's the cheapest single card that can handle a decent 4K experience, it's great performance for the price, features new and exciting tech, and helps out the red team who kinda need it. I honestly can't think of any logical reason not to consider the Fury when searching for a high end GPU.

I'd go with the Sapphire Fury personally. It uses the reference PCB so you know nothing has been screwed with and i'm a bit weary of Asus AMD cards after their versions of the R9 280X and R9 290/X.

Well, in my country it cost more than the 980. But, it preforms better in most cases besides a few where it performs the same. At first i was looking at a 980, but I really wanna see DX 12 with AMD.

What was wrong with those AMD cards? Was it heat? 

Edit: Also I wouldn't really count a custom PCB as bad IMO

There are manufacturer's that make custom PCB's just for the sake of cheaping out on the components, Or they make their own and end up unintentionally f*cking things up. It's not a bad thing so long as they do it properly but with a new card like the Fury i'd personally prefer to stick with the way AMD engineered it. The problem with the Asus DirectCU II R9 280X is that it was plagued with artifacting issues although the exact reason was not clear. Some believe it was because the VRAM was overclocked and set at 1.6V in spite of it only being made to handle 1.5V but even after a bios update from Asus to set it to 1.5V the artifacting still persisted for many users. This happened in some 280X's but way more often with the Asus DirectCU II model.

 

As for the R9 290/x i just remember hearing complaints from users that their cards were running at 95c which was the same temp as the reference 290's ran at. Some other people reported temps in the high 80's and others had even lower temps but it seemed all over the place. From what i remember i think it's because Asus didn't actually engineer a proper DirectCU II cooler for the R9 290 and instead they just slapped on the cooler from the GTX 780.

 

Sapphire arguably make the best AMD cards probably because they make only AMD cards and work closely with AMD. Asus seems to be way more invested in Nvidia cards and have lost my trust after owning the Asus 280X so the only way i would even consider buying an Asus AMD card is if the card has been out for 10 months + with no reported flaws.

Asus are okay for low-heat cards - mine's fine.
280X rev 2.0 is fine - rev 1.0 had overvolted RAM and an unstable OC on it (RAM is made for 6000, Asus had it at 6400) and no cooling on the VRMs so they overheated.

horrible cooler.

It was loud it was hot and in the case of the r9 290/x they just slapped on a 780 cooler

Well hopefully no issues come around for me but my Asus r9 390 has been great, but you'll notice only their and cards get the new directcu iii so it had to be designed with and in mind. My r9 270x from Asus never had issues either but glad I didn't get the 280 because it was out of my budget at that time or I would have, guess I dodged that bullet. But so far the Asus and sapphire seem very similar in the 390 card and it runs quiet and cool

Hmm, also the Sapphire is 2.5 slot cooler. Seems to look more bulky too.
