Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

So, im thinking of upgrading to a 4790 CPU in the near future, do you think its a worthy upgrade? (its a gaming rig) (not upgrading my MOBO btw)

The answer is quite simple if you don't want to overclock: Xeon E3-1231 v3. Costs as much as the 4690k and is basically like the i7-4770 without the iGPU for 100$ less, 4 cores 8 threads as well. There's no better option price/performance wise if you want 8 threads than this Xeon.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

Specs in sign, also im getting the non K version beacuse i dont intend to OC.

i feel like an idiot.

no, if your not going to OC and cannot take advantage of more threads, there isnt really a point in upgrading from that CPU unless you want to hop up a generation to broadwell.

The Xeon is clocked at 3.4Ghz though, and it costs 25$ less.

3,4 with turbo boost to 3,8 I believe? There's like 200mhz difference between the 4790 and the Xeon. If you can find a 1241v3 it's clocked 100mhz higher than the 1231. As I mentioned it's more similar to the 4770 but it's very close to the 4790, you wouldn't feel any real difference

I had an i7 4790 (broke it like a dickhead) and it takes my i5 4690k ocd to around 4.8-4.9ghz to get the same firestrike results.
