MSI GTX 970 vs MSI Radeon R9 390

I am going to buy myself a new gaming pc but i am not sure witch one to choose.

MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB. At 1080p they are very similar in performance but at resolutions that are higher the 390 pulls ahead. Unless you need Cuda for something, get the 390.

It depends on what you want. they trade blows in games at 1080p but up the resolution and the 390 will start to pull a head. Also keep in mind that current titles on the market do seem to still favor Nvidia GPU's more but that can always change.

2 things - 1st - that involves 1 year of waiting. 2 - they meant double precision which was gimped on maxwell.

You should be fine in that department. If you really do have heat issues, then you can just make case airflow better. As for noise, you should be good. I haven't heard anything bad about it.

 No way. The cooler doesn't even turn on underneath a certain temperature (65 degrees or something) so super quiet when gaming and idling. You can of course set a custom fan curve in Afterburner if you wish. The thing idles (in zero-fan passive cooling mode, I might add) at about 45-50 degrees,which isn't bad for an AMD card on passive, and I haven't seen higher than 60 when gaming. It's fantastic.

We wont know what this means until it happens. No doubt DX12 will be a huge improvement for both manufacturers but there is not telling what will happen and who will come out on top. By the way most of the time the title's that are "partnered" just mean that AMD will supply the GPU's for helping make the game. They have to optimize the game for both manufacturers. Also AMD gets to put their name on the title

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this specific benchmark, the 390 only has +1 Average fps but the "minimums" are quite lower meaning the 970 would give an overall smoother experience... And if you consider power consumption, you won't need a PSU as powerful to run the 970 making the bang for buck argument not as compelling.

Theres almost NO difference in performance, even at higher than 1080p they beat eachother at different games, however, the 8GB of Vram is a strong argument for the 390's case, it will help future proof the card.
