Best card out at the minute is the 980ti. Whether it will last 3-4 year's at your required graphical settings is a completely different subject really.

it launched at computex in june, but the chip (gm200, the 980ti has a slightly cut down version of it) itself launched with the titan x in march I think

weird I had a diffrent idea... I remeber buying a 8800GT (200$ card) and playing everything maxed up for quiet a few years... nowadays 200 dollar cards are cards to play games at high-very high 1080p with 30-40fps for a year or two

I'd picked the 980Ti after I dumped my 295x2. I'm looking forward what AMD can offer when Nvidia Pascal comes out (late 2016).

980Ti beats it right now. As for DX12 results? Nobody can say as it's too early to know. HBM or not, having 6GB of VRAM will be sufficient for the time being and for at least a few years. Heck, depending on your resolution and settings you could easily get by with 4GB.

 

But to reference someone else; Paul's Hardware just released a video comparing dual 980's, dual 980Ti's, and dual Fury X's in SLI/Crossfire. At the end of his video he said something along the lines of: when building a PC and choosing components you must keep in mind that the technological world moves at a blistering pace. And you must be resigned to the fact that newer, better hardware will always be just around the corner; regardless of how powerful your system is it won't be the fastest thing out there for very long.

Umm, The R9 Fury (non-X). Slap bang in the middle of 980 Ti and 980 in both performance and pricing (even with OC on 980).

 

EDIT: Btw, this isn't for fastest or the hands-down will last you the longest. Like Paul said, tech moves by way to fast. The card may last you 3 to 5, or the tech next year or in two might just leave and 2015 card in the dust.
