Corsair CX - WHY IS IT HATED?

AsrielDreemurr
Go to solution Solved by Amazingasian,

They are extreme fire hazards due to the fact that they cannot handle temps over 30 degrees.

They are overpriced. The CX850M is actually quite good with decent components and the ability to run safely well above its maximum rated temperature (I confirmed that when I had it as the only exhaust in my small ATX case). However Price is a really big issue.

Thing is - there are better and more reliable options than the CX and the price difference is minimal

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx600m - CX600M @ 42$

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-xfxts550w - XFX550 @ 56$

It's even worse for the RM

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-rm650 - RM650 @ 106$

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-m12ii620bronze - M12II 620W @ 82$

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20650y1 - EVGA G2 650W @ 96$

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0650v1 - EVGA GS 650W @ 80$

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ssr750rm - G-750 @ 102$

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-s12g650 - S12G @ 95$

I am literally sick and tired of repeating the fact that for the money that people spend on Corsair you can always get a platform that is better quality and has better customer support. SeaSonic RMA PSUs for as little as you being able to hear it from further than 1 meter.

@STRMfrmXMN has a guide on the subject and I strongly suggest looking at his guide and whitelist as well as @Aniallation 's ranking and tier list. I'm probably calling them for the 6th time in this thread alone -_-

$42 to $56 is 25% more expensive. to some people thats a huge amount and like i've already said, prices are different in every country.

And the CX would still be overpriced. (Then again, I paid the same amount for my CX850M as I did my VS650).

I mean they cost more than FSP Raider silver and that's a better platform honestly.

the axi are rubbish. the few people i know who have maxed them out have said they cut out way too soon.

Hmm, I would disagree, as I feel that FSP had gone too far and had reach the limitation of the Raider and Aurum Platform. I mean the Raider had exhibit higher residual ripples and vastly inferior voltage regulation (in fact, during a control progressive loading test, it yield 4.4% v.reg on the 12v at JG).

Due to some issues with people's PC shorting out and drawing large amount of power from it, Corsair had set the AXi as a multi-rail unit by default with the OCP set at 40A / 480w, so it will shut off safely in event where the system is drawing too much off of a single cable. Could the issue be that loads were not properly distributed? Corsair Link allow it to switch between single and multirail.

Post above yours and wait for Ellie to tell you his story.

Her :').

So. what story? Story of my CX RMA?. Simple I started up my PC after refreshing it's Bios, and then as soon as i pressed the start button it went KABOOM, Took out the Unit and did without the PC for a few days (or i think i put in my Enermax Unit and used my 550ti instead). Then i called up for an RMA, Delivery man came and took it away, the company i bought it from did an inspection on the unit and found it was dud, So they asked if i wanted a replacement or just cash. (it was about 70 quid i paid for the CX750) so i told them cash.

Never got a single penny back, maybe it was due to card troubles but i haven't been contacted over that ethier. so eh i just left it.

THEN ME BEING STUPID ....bought a CX750M! to replace it ....which died a few months later, i didn't have the Maplin recipt for it so i was again without a working PSU, waited to get paid and got me the EVGA G2 i have now :).

Also to add to the ammunition, I live in Scotland, and i believe both my CX's died around Autumn-Spring. so the ambients cant be that hot. though to be fair i was running a GTX 590 which is pretty much 2 580's on one card....and easily able to get to 90C

Hey i bought my 590 thinking it was a 3GB card :').

As much as i talk about my 590 being problematic and stuttery....I still have a lot of heart for it, Like a teenage romance, Maybe were too young, it ended badly, but there was always something special about it despite everything.

I still mourn for my 3770K though ;n; but hey if it never broke....i'd have never had gotten the experience i have now with my 4820k <3
