Corsair CX - WHY IS IT HATED?

AsrielDreemurr
Go to solution Solved by Amazingasian,

They are extreme fire hazards due to the fact that they cannot handle temps over 30 degrees.

Hey There!

So I've been looking around the web, and I've always seen a pattern that relates to Corsair's CX series. They Suck (apparently)

So today's topic is simple: WHY? It's 80 plus bronze and it's continuous power output. WHY do they suck?

If you play Geometry Dash, would you take the time to rate this demon? 14986973 ;3;

My CX has been fine, just a little coil wine every now and then.

It is only rated for full power under 30C. Basically, if it goes over that, who knows what might happen.

Corsair states on their site that it should be used for office and basic builds only. So no gaming or overclocking builds. If used in the correct environment, it is a perfectly fine PSU, though still on the cheap side.

Just to be clear, it will not blow up your system, it is just more likely to die.

Simple, They dont cope with hardcore temperatures, There is a fair share of people reporting that units have broke on them, Not great capacitors. Not really a good PSU but managed to get by thanks to fancy branding.

I as said, Had 2 Both are dead, even my cheapo Enermax Unit lasted longer and did a better job. got a Supernova G2 and i definately feel a difference.

With the CX units i had a few components get damaged, the feeling that the units were always on the edge or were just about to go pop, Funnily enough my 7950 refused to start up just before my cx750m died, yet as soon as i got the G2 850W the 7950 roared back to life.

It depends on what your setup is. if its not over a i5/i3 and a 280x or above then it should be fine. But like others say. there are better quality PSU's for the price

It's 80 plus bronze and it's continuous power output.

I don't know why they suck, not going to answer that, but I will clarify this^. So the 80+ is not a rating of PSU quality, only efficiency, so it theoretically could be very efficient and a fire hazard. Also all PSU's have a continuous power output(and are rated as so, rating things by the "peaks" is long gone in the pc industry).

The lower wattage aren't bad because they normally don't get very hot. You can normally find better for similar cost is mostly what it is. They also have psu's in every price segment so there is more chances for hate.

Treating the power supply as an afterthought can cost one hundreds and even thousands in damage.

That's a bit stupid comparing it to the normal work of Corsair. What happened with the CX series?

the fact that yours is fine doesn't guarantee that everyone is fine. This week we've had 2 people with burned CX  PSUs

280X + CX = barbecue :P

Lol I've had a CX 500w and a 8320 + 7970 for a while

Should have invested more into the psu, but the build only had a 7850 to begin,

The psu has lasted though, even through the massive 8320 and 7970 power :P
