New build for girlfriend! Intel VS AMD

Go to solution Solved by OAcesync,

Why would I need an APU, when I already have a GTX 460?

Well then just get something like a i3. I'm just saying those would be the only CPUs I would for the build

I agree with many here, APU would be PERFECT

How so?

Only bought the new gtx 460, because her old 8800 GTX on her Core2Quad Q9450 setup was dying.

later I found out that it's the motherboard. So.. Yeah. Lots of spare parts, might aswell just buy a new motherboard and cpu, and add the rest.

The integrated graphics on the chips are amazing for what they are, also more cores plus slightly better single core performance over the FX line. You can also grab a cheep radeon card down the line and cross-fire it with the on board graphics. APUs are also quite cheep right now.

your GTX 460 is basically on par with the 7870ks iGPU...

get a AThlon 860k. Cheap quad core that is slightly slower then the i3, but at much lower cost

here... this gonna work just fine. Trust me. This setup wont dissappoint. you can OC like 2-300 MHz easily on that board if you want a little tiny bit more umpf. But its not really needed

Sorry i'm kinda old fashioned,My wife new we were serious when she got to order dessert.

On a more serious note the fx 6300 or the 860k, Normally I would say an A10 but you have the dgpu already.

6300 will be faster

FM2+ boards for an 860k have SATA 3 and PCIE 3 support even with the budget 68 chipset boards. If you see an A10-7850k/MB combo that's cheaper then the other two get it. I have one and I am VERY happy with it.

What the acutal fuck bro xD

Well we Live in Denmark, and here If you're married, you have to support one another, if you're not married, you can get support from the state, if you lose your job.

So Marrige is kind of a no-go mostly. Plus ½ of the people married here have seperated, and/or cheated.

@Edgar R. Zakarian

Thanks for the input!

I ordered the i3. This way I don't have to live with AMD's stock cooler, and not forced to pay for aftermarket cooler xD

Plus the 1150 socket can be upgraded on. If I'd have to use AMD, it would be after their new upcoming CPU line-up, which I KNOW they would upgrade on.

Cause AM3+ is probably dead after the bulldozers. :/

(I don't hate AMD, I'm using it right now, 8350 is great xD)

V300 funker. Om ikke annet er den en slags "the little engine that could".... for prisen er det et OK produkt.

PS:

Also if I got an amazing rig then I think messing with computers would become less of a hobby, plus my title says it all, Pentium 4s are the shit B)

only outperform FX in older titles, or titles that only use 4 cores. Newer games who more often support more then 4 cores, the FX will get similar FPS as the i3, but it will have better minimum FPS (in general).

Hard to tell man, a lot of different hardware testing sites, user testimonies and youtube videos all show different results. I've seen some sources find i3 do better than FX-9590 in modern titles and some that have FX-8350 performing similar to i5-4690. I tend to go by YouTube videos since the videos are user experiences with overlay showing FPS (and sometimes other data) so it seems the most accurate to me, and more YouTube videos than not paint a better picture for the i3 than the FX lineup except in a few games.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W
