Thankyou for DVD Drive, added to parts list.

Still having a hard time figuring out motherboard, whether i shld change ram to ddr4 and get a ddr4 motherboard or keep ddr3.

SSD i think ill use the previously suggested BX100 250gb, still open for suggestions especially with the samsung one you presented.

I think ill stick with the 970 to keep pricing down, unless 980 is an absolute must have.

The corsair case only has 2 front usb's from what i see, will all ur parts listed fit with the nanoxia?

The 550w gold 80+ mentioned before will most likely be the power supply i choose.

If i get the extra fan if i stick with nanoxia?

Thankyou again for update. Will list all the parts i've decided on tomorrow and hopefully we can finally work out a solid build with eveyrthing compatible. Thankyou again for this afternoon, have a good night.

  • there's not much difference in performance between ddr3 and ddr4
  • in terms of ssd's, they rank as follows (from good to excellent): ssd plus, ssd370, bx100, 850 evo, extreme pro
  • the 980 is miles better than the 970. if you're going to try and save money on the gpu, go down to the r9 390x or the r9 390 after that. given your budget, i'd go with the 980
  • the corsair 200r has 2 usb 3.0 ports. that's it
  • i know nothing about the nanoxia case
  • a 550w gold psu is fine, but if you have to sacrifice a better gpu to get it, it's not worth it. you should have the bulk of your money placed into the cpu and gpu for gaming
  • i wouldn't worry about extra fans

After a bit more research i have decided on a build, would be awesome if you could check it out and give me your final thoughts, which includes (with links to the website i will be buying off of):

CPU: Intel i5 4690k, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27941

Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A for some reason isn't in any of the trusted websites in australia like scorptec, pc case gear etc., so will one of these motherboards do:

ASUS Z97-K, http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1150/54772-Z97-K

MSI Z97 Gaming 3, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_1491&products_id=27523

Also would like to, obviously, make sure all usb slots on the case will be working with either of these. Any suggestions would be great. Would help if you used PC Case Gear

Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1866 2x4GB, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27402&cPath=774

Storage: WD Blue 1TB, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21231

Storage SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5", http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=30448

Video Card: MSI GTX 970, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=29086 (I figured i won't need a 980 for 1080p and it would increase the price way too much for how much better it performs).

Case: Nanoxia Deep Silence 1, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=31404

Power: The gold power supply 550w is not available on PC Case gear or scorptec so what is a power supply for around the same price as the one i first had in my topic post but with less voltage (preferably 550-600w) and better performance?

Optical Drive: Pioneer BDR-209DBKS, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=31876

Also still comparing 970 with r9 390, both are exact same price on pcg, so far its looking like the 390 is winning. so that will probably end up being the card i get.

Also apprently the r9 390 requires a 600w PSU, this sounds a little crazy but is it true?

R9 390 seems to need a hell of a ton of PSU Wattage. If the 970 Doesn't need as much i will definitely be buying the 970, but if the power supply is the same or it doesn't cost much to upgrade to a PSU that can support the 390 in the long term, 390 it is.

The R9 380 does pull more watts than the 970.

The 970 should give you solid performance in 1080p games, but for more demanding games, the settings might need to be toned down a little. If you want to keep settings high, go with 980.

A cheaper solution would be to go with 2 950s in SLI. They won't be able to do anything higher than 1080p, but they are cheap cards, around 150+ each. You could get two for the price of 1 970 or 980. You can't do more than 2-way SLI with them, but the 950 is a entry level 1080p card so it's not expected to do much.

Thankyou very much, I think i might go with the 970 then as i don't mind toning down game settings for the higher demanding ones. as long as i can play on 1080p mid settings or higher im happy. I'm also happy with upgrading if i need to 1/2 - 1 yr later.

Will one of these 3 PSU's be good enough to suit the needs of the 970?

They are all 650w and gold certified. If all of them are compatible which is the best performance wise?

Also do all of these PSU's fit into the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 (ATX Case)?

Thanks again for thr eply i really appreciate it

Do not go with the EVGA G1. The G1's I've heard have a bad reputation. Go with a G2, P2, or T2 from EVGA.

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/406160-psu-ranking-and-tiers/

Here's a list of PSU's. Go with anything in the Tier 1 or 2 list, 1 if you can, 2 if you can't spend the money. Try to stay away from 3 and 4.

As for the links, the first seasonic. The S12G model.

So the S12G model i linked is a t1 PSU using the link you sent me as a reference? if so then i'll definitely get that one if it can support the 970.

Thanks again for the help.

Also if you don't mind, can you tell me if either of these are good motherboards for compatibility with my current build (including compatibility for 2 x usb 2.0 and 2 x usb 3.0 on the front of the case i'm getting):

ASUS Z97-K, http://www.scorptec....150/54772-Z97-K

Either motherboard will do.

When it comes to cases 2 USBs will be on 1 plug. The case you want has four front USBs, 2 2.0s and 2 3.0s. You'll only need 1 front 3.0 header and 1 front 2.0 header. Motherboards today usually come with at least 1 3.0 header. As for 2.0 headers, I think that motherboard as 2 to 4.

I would go with ASUS

No problem.

Oh, and advice for future upgrades:

980 TI

850W EVGA G2, or better, if you're going to SLI.

New motherboard. There's nothing wrong with the motherboard you have for gaming, but I would pick out an ASUS ROG board as the ROG boards are gaming oriented and there for come with software and hardware that helps your computer better perform in games: Like Intel Gigabit LAN, Gamefirst(which makes your internet put more bandwidth towards you game), as well as other bells and whistles.

Ok thankyou very much, 980 is a definate upgrade possibility in my mind, especially since pricing will hopefully drop in 1/2 a years time.

Thankyou for the motherboard suggestions, im a complete idiot when it comes to them =P.

SLI is probably a late future upgrade, and will probably do it bout 1-2 yrs time. thnx for psu suggestion tho noted.

Thnx again for help =D

The build looks excellent.  I don't think, however, you will need a PSU of that high a wattage.  maybe step down to 600 watts to save a few pennies? Also, the R9 390 would be a good alternative to the GTX 970 (depends on whether you like team green, with Game stream, G-Sync, Geforce Experience, etc, or team red, with Freesync, mantle (which is dead), eyefinity, trueaudio, etc.).  Their performance is so similar in benchmarks that it really depends on which way you want to sway.  I THINK there is a way to plug a USB 2 header into a USB 3 board and have it operate, but I'm not sure...

Here is a good PSU that might save you some: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-100b10500kr

The build if I did it:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/PXpDgs

Only now am I appreciating how much more expensive components are in places besides North America...  If you have a buddy living in the US or Canada, have him buy the parts and mail them, then pay him back.  It might save you some money (but shipping can be an ***).

Wanted to say thank you, you really helped me sort out what to get.

Yes, it will allow for a CPU upgrade. It won't allow for asnother GPU to be added though. It should be okay with most single GPUs

No prob, also, you may want to add a CPU Cooler. Stock coolers aren;t that great. The Cooler Master 212 EVO is pretty good cheap air cooler and the Cooler Master Seiden 120m is a good cheap water cooler

No prob, also, you may want to add a CPU Cooler. Stock coolers aren;t that great. The Cooler Master 212 EVO is pretty good cheap air cooler and the Cooler Master Seiden 120m is a good cheap water cooler

I wouldn't need a water cooler will i? Air cooler should be fine, and the 212 EVO will be good for my build?
