Help with convincing parents to get gaming PC

beach_boy98
Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Come away from the whole gaming, better performance, cheaper side of it, and talk more about the educational benefits of it. Working with electronics, esd protection (static, but sounds better :D), familiarising yourself with hardware and software installation etc.

I just had a chat with my parents about me building a pc. I brought up all the arguments about being cheaper and learning how to build a pc. I even showed them the videos of Jayztwocents' daughter building one. But nothing. Please help me or xbox one it is.

They rather let you buy an Xbox 1 over a PC?

Ask them if the Xbox 1 can open up excel sheets.

Quote me if you want me to see your message. Like my post if it helped. Click "Show More" to see things that I use.

Ask them for the money they would spend on the XBone, save for a while and learn how to build a decent rig.

You will be able to fix something yourself, if it brakes. PCs come way less obsolete than Consoles. Games are way cheaper!

I have it all in cash in my room from my grandparents. They didn't even give it to me.

Your biggest mistake was the whole gaming angle, talk about educational aspects like learning to code that might evolve into a career path.

Parents love that shit!

Here's some reasons:

  • Exceptional bang-for-your-buck performance
  • Upgradeability and future-proofing
  • Ability to both do study AND gaming
  • Much easier to repair if something breaks
  • Usually gaming PC's hold their value better than consoles
  • Gaming PC's can be used offline just fine (so long as the games don't need internet)
  • Steam Summer Sale and other sales mean games are cheaper for PC
  • You can use emulator programs to run many console games on your PC anyway

Maybe Tek Syndicate can add to this as well, they put up some damn good arguments:

Even though it doesn't seem very difficult it is possible to mess it up, yes.

But you do need a pc anyway for other things. It might as well be a really good one.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Offer to buy it all from Scan, as they offer http://www.scan.co.uk/scansure/ which protects you from any fuck ups during installation...

EDIT: It's about £10+, depending on the value of everything.

EDIT#2: If your 11 year old sister has got to be entertained by it too, then an xbox does seem like the sensible option, no?
