Another PC to preset up for an install tomorrow. (excuse my mess)

Fujitsu

i5

4GB RAM

500GB

Bits to do now, Add to MS Domain (SBS setup) via VPN, Install MS Office 2013 H&B, Install sage 2015.

Onsite, Log on as AD User, move sage data over from old HDD. No need to move any other files as this company uses redirected folders for its users.

A fun one this morning. A customers server went offline on Saturday morning, So this morning after the bank holiday I went in to see what had happened.

Customer had tried a "system repair" which I cringed at, as this always does more damage.

Server was a Dell T310, 32GB RAM, Running Windows Small Business Server 2011.

So to get started..........turned back on DHCP on the modem so that at least they had Internet. Server was running DHCP and DNS so no Internet till this was done.

Then 1st thing with the server was to stop it loop booting and see what the BSOD was, So I turned off auto reboot and got this:
2015-09-01%2011.30.18_zpsiy3rhh9v.jpg
But no new hardware installed so it must be failed Hardware.

Went into the raid controller settings and hey, failed HDD, So remove the drive from the Virtual disk.
2015-09-01%2011.59.23_zpswqlow28z.jpg

Then for the next 5 hours I had to manually to a degree repair Active Directory and missing files from SFC /Scannow that never got put back in place. I could only get the server to boot into AD Restore Mode / Safe Mode.

2015-09-01%2013.58.46_zpsupaog0ja.jpg

Then in the end after getting AD repaired it finally booted up.

Why the Dell Perc raid controller never just dropped the failed HDD from the Virtual Disk and carry on working I do not know, It's been a while since I've had a server go down like that.

Happy day's, Just need to get a new disk out to them tomorrow and hopefully the Raid will rebuild OK.

An easy one today, add an additional access point to an existing wifi network already running the Unifi Controller software

What a day..................... a server failure on Saturday night so first thing this morning off to site to take a look.

Diagnosed with dead PSU. Luckily we had another "old" server PSU from a simular model in the office so we "botched" it to get them up and running. So 5 hour downtime wasn't bad.

Server is 10 years old and needs replacing, but this customer doesn't want to spend the money. This could have been RIP for the server, but rescued.

Found a funny line in some vmware logs.

My uncle runs his own programming business for custom software and debugging. He mainly works on computerized machinery and mechanical systems (think factory programming). I went with him once to a small job in a machine shop. The lathe refused to change gears, and would strip its transmission at least once a year, oh the lathe was the size of a house too ;) .  He found that the programming had a simple error making the gears trying to mesh when stationary (think of trying to shift a manual car when stopped, it works sometimes, but sometimes the gears simply don't line up)

Anyways, in the code, there was at least 20 knock-knock jokes, and a few bible references.

that's my story

Actually got to install the above server today after the building "fit out" was completed.

I installed the equipment yesterday in a mess on the floor as the CAB didn't turn up on site.

2016-01-13%2010.57.12_zpsipcnufut.jpg

Then CAB turned up today which i had to put together and get the equipment in

Last thing to sort it the hanging modem for the backup broadband line and VOIP phones, Phone extension lead required.

Get a POE adapter for a unifi Access point to replace the modem being used as an access point on top of the CAB.

So yesterday this server died, posted above (dead PSU), Unsure what the issue was but got it up and running again with help from the lads in the office.

2016-03-09%2009.35.15_zpsfrjhu1oh.jpg

So as is was stable on the desk we told the customer it had to be replaced, so this morning a new server turned up for us to P2V so they could get back up and running. All day yesterday the company never did any work as they had no server and the same today whilst we P2V the server,

Fujitsu RX300 S8 E5-2620v2, 96GB RAM, 4 x 600GB SAS in a Raid 10

2016-03-09%2009.35.26_zpsthaiccbi.jpg

This customer had put off buying new hardware for the last 3 years and yesterday and today they cannot work. Investing in New IT equipment is very important and you'll be surprise how many companies put this off. They cannot process any work, use there CRM package, send or receive emails as its an exchange server.

I bet they have lost more work today than the cost of the server.

Hopefully tomorrow this will be in place and they will be up and running if the 646GB P2V completes OK.

Area we worked on it.
