5,4& of the people use multiple GPU's, but about 30% uses 750-850W PSU's.. What? That just doesn't make sense :P

For nVidia cards an 850 is plenty for all but the highest end in SLI.

I just did some calculations using this tool:

http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

with a standard 4790K system and dual 980s.   recommended power supply is 569 Watts.

That is with no overclocking mind you.  But still not that high.

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

Absolutely fascinating data here. Thanks a lot. Now I need to compare this to Steam data.

Test ideas by experiment and observation; build on those ideas that pass the test, reject the ones that fail; follow the evidence wherever it leads and question everything.

PSU efficiency. 50% load is more or less the sweet spot.

A single GPU PC reach about 400W while at full load. (mine does anyway...)

So getting a 750~850W PSU makes sense in that way. It also leaves enough room for upgrading later down the road and accounts for PSU degradation.
