Build a 5-600$ rig

Go to solution Solved by Lays,

He wouldn't need an i5 for what he would be doing. You could cut down the i5 and get a better GPU like a 290 even

The thing is, these games listed in OP don't use the GPU hardly at all.

I see extremely low GPU usage on CSGO and LoL, despite being at 1440p. My GPU TDP is usually insanely low too (like sub 30% tdp) and I'm barely above idle temps. They really don't give a dam what GPU you have, as long as it's not a complete pile of shit & you have a good CPU, then you'll see high FPS.

A bit over your budget. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mg87CJ

The GPU is just way too pricey for what it is, get a r9 280. And a core i3 would do better for gaming, the fx series is too old now and is due for a upgrade.

A higher end GPU really isn't even needed, all the games mentioned in OP are very CPU reliant, not so much GPU.  AMD & moba's / MMO's and other cpu based games usually don't mix IMO.

Low end i5/i3 and a low end 2xx/3xx card would probably the best solution, and then he can upgrade the GPU later if he ever decides to branch out to other more intensive games.

I like the r9 280, it's perfect with 3gb vram I figure. And I was gonna go amd Athlon, what do you think about that

An i3 will perform much better. You can get a better GPU in that price. Your build is expensive and won't be that good.

You can change the PSU if you wan't, I was looking for a decent semi-modular PSU. You can get a silverstone or seasonic one if you wish

Good point, but the GPU costs 249 and its just a r9 270x. At this price you can get r9 290. So it would be better if he gets a cheaper r9 280 at 170 dollars and spend the saved 80 dollars at a better processor, maybe a i5 4460. Do you agree?

Yep, but price/performance. 250 is a lot for a 270X. You can find normal ones for ~170.

Save money by getting an H81/B85 chipset board since OP won't be overclocking on a locked chip.

Mainly chose that board because of quality and the fact that it has AC wifi for $70+. Most people don't include wifi cards in their builds and USB ones suck ass.

I think if he cuts the GPU and get a better CPU, he has better expandability in the future, it's usually easier to sell a GPU & buy a new one than it is to do so with a CPU.
