which card is the one to take?

I wouldn't get a 960 but if you can't stretch the budget and get a 970 instead I'll more willing to pick it over the 380.

380 for the win

I recommend R9 380 as it more "fair" than 960.

380 has more texture mapping units, higher floating point perf  and more shading units.

Also, according to the rumors, 380 should perform really well with DX12  ;)

Oppa 380 Style  ^_^

380 for sure

380, unless the 960 is 15+ dollars cheaper.

Also I'd really heavily recommend getting away from that cpu. More and more New games fail to support dual core cpus not to mention that unless overclocked a Pentium can bottleneck even a 750ti at low enough settings.

380 or 390

Here there Panda! Remember me? Lol.

Personally I'd go with the 380 if you have plans to get an i5 shortly, but if you really want to take advantage of Shadowplay and other Nvidia features, I'd really try and save for a 970.

so i have come to the conclusion that everybooty wants me to get a R9 380 or a R9 280x if i can find one

halp i need haaalp .... (sorry if this kind of topic is too common)
i need a gpu upgrade cause this is dying and i it cant run many games
so the options are from these 2

Saphire R9 380 4GB
http://www.1shop.lv/sapphire-amd-radeon-r9-380-4gb-11242-07-20g/

Gigabyte GTX 960 4GB
http://www.dateks.lv/cenas/videokartes-pci-express/112457_gigabyte_geforce_gtx960_4gb_gddr5_windforce_2x

my psu is a 750w so it can handle any of these cards also heat is not a problem

and the games i plan on playing are
CS: GO
GTAV
Need for Speed (the one to be released)
Watch dogs
Project Cars
Wreckfest
Asseto Corsa
and stuff like this

i personaly would prefer the nvidia one for the geforce experiance software but idk it seems that the amd one gets more fps and im overly confused so iw ant to know wich one has what features that are better then the other one

960 easily with a Pentium, a Pentium will get murdered by the DX11 driver overhead in AMD cards.

DX11 overhead on amd cards..... explain please? :D

See this post I made in another thread:

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/436077-evga-geforce-gtx-960-2gb-or-sapphire-radeon-r9-270x-4gb-for-budget-build/?p=5845161

Eurogamer.net first found this while reviewing the GTX 960. Google Eurogamer's GTX 960 review to read about the DX11 overhead in AMD's drivers killing performance on an i3 when there is a lot of stuff on screen to draw. If you watch the first video you'll see an area of COD AW where a GTX 750 Ti is thoroughly outperforming a freaking R9 280 when used with an i3-4130 when the much more powerful 280 murders the 750 Ti using an i7-4790k.

If you're planning to get an i5 soon don't worry about it, the DX11 overhead in AMD's drivers is a concern with an i3 or lower, but not an i5 or higher. With an i5 I'd take a 380 over a 960.

This shows up in a lot of games. Not everything though, for instance BF4 and AC Unity don't show these kind of drops with an i3 and a Radeon in their testing. If you check Digital Foundry's youtube channel you can see more of these kind of comparisons, though you'll have to search a bit since they publish so much youtube content.

I wouldn't sweat the difference if you're only talking about using it with the Pentium for a couple of months while putting money away for an i5. In that case I'd go as powerful as I could with the GPU. Are there any stores where you can get good deals on the R9 290? In the US you can still find them for $30-$40 more than the R9 380, and the 290 smashes the 380 in performance. Another GPU to look at is the R9 280x, which soundly outperforms the R9 380 4GB. It maybe be too late now to get the 290 or 280x on firesale prices, but it's still worth searching. If you get a reference blower R9 290/290x though (e.g., this one) they can be very loud and run hot, but they'll still hugely outperform an R9 380 or GTX 960. If you get an R9 290/290x though, stay away from Asus DirectCU II.

As SteveGrabowski0 said, I would go as powerful as you can with a GPU. 290/x would be the best  price to performance. If you really don't have the choice to move into the that range, I would say grab the 280x, as it is a more powerful card than the 380 and 960. The 280/x and 290/x both have basic support of DX12. http://www.amd.com/en-us/press-releases/Pages/amd-demonstrates-2014mar20.aspx
