I believe it's an intake blower style fan. So it gets air from both sides and exhaust through the back (outside PC)

That's a blow style card, so it can pull air in from the top and bottom, and exhausts it out the side of the fan, or across a heatsink. If Nvidia extended their gpu coolers, they could do the same thing, and possibly get better cooling thanks to a larger heatsink.

so this

Not this

Right?

 Precisely.

Now, just because it has two openings for air doesn't mean twice the air flow, but it does mean greater amounts of airflow, just not double. All blower cards imo should be like this, but it would make the coolers too long in many cases.

Since the MoBo has cut out at the bottom, so now wouldn't the airflow into the heat sinks be destroyed? Because if the holes are there, then wouldn't air just go straight in a line, then pushed into the heatsink?

Asus GTX 970 turbo

Using my knowledge in gr.12 physics I will try to explain why it works. The fan rotates which produces a centripetal force on the air inside the fan blades. As you may know already centripetal force causes the thing which the force is acting upon( the air in the fan blades) to go outwards away from the axis of rotation (the centre of the fan blades). Since the air is being pushed out the sides of the fan blades, it goes into the cards heatsinks. Know for how it sucks in air, since the fan pushes the air out of it and into the heatsink, the fan is then "empty" so more air comes in through both sides to fill the "empty" space.

It also means that if you SLI these cards, you can run two of them together in adjacent slots, and even if there is milimeters of space between the bottom and top of the cards respectively, they can still draw in in air from one of the two sides.

Hence the "SLI perfected" slogan.

asus' websites hasn't been working. I just got the pics from Google, and drew on them with notability.

Aye, it took me a few minutes to realize what the implications of that design were when I first saw the card too. Wish other's would adopt that style too.

yea if the GPU MoBo had cut outs for the fan like that, I'm sure blower cars would be used more.

Blowers are great fans they're just super loud. I'm ok with seeing fewer of them in the wild
