First time building, does it look alright?

Go to solution Solved by MunnyMang,

i'll probably go for this as it's the cheapest build yet and still gives me an ssd to play with.

even if i don't i think i have a better idea of what i should do now, thanks a lot you guys were a big help.

so i bought a pre-owned gaming rig a couple years back which first got me into the whole PC gaming/building world. next month im moving down to university and because i don't want to be lugging this huge full tower PC back and forth i decided on a mini-itx build, i'm a little nervous because this'll be my first time actually putting together an entire PC from scratch.

tell me if it looks to be good or if i am bottlenecking somewhere, or if i could opt for some cheaper parts and get the same performance.

i'm gonna need a decent amount of power because im going for an architecture course and i've been told there'll be a fair amount of digital modelling, designing and rendering.(as well as the fact that i want to be able to play games)

Get a cheaper cooler and even a processor to get a 980ti. It should do better in games that way, most games don't make use of the i7 very well.

Looks good, though I would try and aim for an SSD and a better monitor, IMO 1080p 60hz is a waste of a 980

wow thanks guys a lot of really quick responses, i figured i was going to have to wait awhile before things picked up.

so what i'm hearing is, my cpu cooler is overkill, i should just upgrade to 980 ti if i'm around that price range anyways and grab an ssd?

this looks really good, it's a little pricier and since i haven't moved in yet i'm trying not to go too far beyond £1000. but i'll definitely take this build into consideration.

This is what I would do:
  • 120GB SSD for your operating system.
  • R9 390X, because it's a lot cheaper for almost the same performance.
  • Nepton 240M instead of the H100i. It's much quieter and performance is also better. And it's also cheaper. But it's a bit hard to mount. I experienced myself. But shouldn't be too much of a problem.
  • EVGA PSU. It's a lot cheaper but also fully modular and 80+ gold rated. EVGA's customer support is outstanding. So definitly a good choice to go.

It's already over his budget.

Then cut down on something else, no build at this price should be left without an SSD...

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

There's nothing else I could cut down on that would make sense.

Just go with the monitor he selected and simply not a 980Ti? Not everyone needs a 980Ti just because it has a pretty good value.

A 970, R9 390, R9 390X is totally fine.

Especially because he could crossfire 390Xs and get even better performance than a 980Ti. Especially with that Crossfire scaling which works better than SLI.

And the price difference wouln't even be that high. Price/performance wise it's pretty much the same.

You paired a 980Ti with a 1080p monitor, what do you mean "theres nothing you could cut down"
