Don't expect the 960 to max out any triple-A game that's come out this year. You'd be looking at more of the 390/970/Fury/980 Ti for maxing out anything.

Still, I wouldn't get an Nvidia card right now for DX12.

We're not wizards so we don't know. Chances are you won't gain much memory compression with DX12 so performance won't increase much in that regard.

considering vram usage is in the hands of the developers, not the API. i dont have a source but i have heard that DX12 will use 600 MB more vram, but that is most likely up to the game developer.

It should improve FPS and possibly make memory usage more efficient, or at least provide the structure for game developers to do so. It is still reliant on game developers optimising their games properly and implementing proper DX12 support, and as we've seen time and time again, even the biggest developers think they can get away with doing minimal work on PC releases.

Either way, it's not going to make the 960 an amazing card, and it will still struggle with a lot of games at ultra settings.

It replaced the 750 Ti price point. Who buys these things expecting to max everything?

Games evolve and use better and better higher resolution textures with more and more details all the time...your VRAM requirements will only increase from now on and it might even be exponential when future next gen DX12 games actualy release..

It's really $150?

It's £150. Can't speak for international pricing, but the 960 and 380 are considerably cheaper than the 760 and 280 were.

Heyyo,

Memory usage is up to the game engine. Unless DirectX 12 has a more optimized texture compression which so far not a single mention of that? It will probably have the same memory usage as now.

I wouldn't worry too much about 2GB on a GTX 960 though, you'll still run out of GPU power before you hit a VRAM limitation. If you ran SLI on GTX 960 2GB? There is a chance you'd run into a VRAM wall... but of course that depends on if the game engine will support VRAM doubling or not. From everything I've gathered so far? VRAM doubling on Multi-GPU setups will vary depending on game engine support as it is part of the multi adapter setup and NOT natively through DirectX. It does make sense though as I have not heard about AMD Mantle doing VRAM sharing between GPUs on Battlefield 4, it only happens on Civ V's new addon... that probably doesn't even touch 4GB since it's an isometric strategy game and not GTA V lol. :P

I bet GTA V would benefit greatly from AMD Mantle / DirectX 12 / Vulkan... since even the boost of draw calls per second on a detailed open world game would make the game run better... especially the multi adapter VRAM sharing in my case of my 2GB GTX 680 SLI. :P

ok guys thanks fot the fast replies (you like debating as i see lol )

listen guys a don't live in the US or europe i'm in north africa i hade only two choices between 2 gb gtx 960 or a 4gb gtx 970 so i have to do with what i got here

so i'm asking you i there is some taps to win memory
because this is just insane gta everything at max needs a 5.5 gb of vram i think it's just the optimization because i can play the witcher 3 with ultra and texture at max with my 2gb

970. Make sure you turn off the unnecessary settings that use way too much VRAM if you do GTA V.
