which z170 MOBO to choose? hero or gaming 7

Never built a pc... Will use it for Gaming (Right now i'm really into StarConflict), CAD, Rendering of CAD projects and Mechanical Engineering simulations.
(I'm an engineering student)

Wanted to build a z97 but my build got delayed so hard because of work, uni, etc that i'm going for skylake! Hurray!!!

so far i have 2 build options:

either i7 6700k, gtx 980ti with a 4k screen for 2200 Swiss francs (2000 Us$) 1440p screen would work too but they are only 10-20% less expensive than 4k sooooo.

or i5 6600k, gtx 970 with 1080p for 1500 Swiss francs (1350 Us$)

now i'm between asus maximus viii hero or gigabyte z170x gaming 7

Are they overkill? Do mobos matter? Do I matter? Probably not...

what's important to me in a mobo: Good internet (will add an asus ac68 later on), 2 way sli for maybe 2nd gpu in 2 or so years, Solid sound, easy Noob friendly OC and maybe good looks (should fit with a black/red nzxt 450 noctis and white cryorig r1 universal... those parts were bought on a sale here in Switzerland)

Money is not an issue as i have worked my ass off in my side jobs doing massive overtimes and its time to spend some CASH...
However its a question of how much i wanna spend without going overkill!

Hälp PLS

Motherboards don't matter, nope but I would go for a Gigabyte board always.

Just find the one that looks best with your other stuff tbh.

They matter for Skylake, VRM's are no longer on the CPU, and BCLK OC's are now viable.

around 50% of perf of engineering software is cpu driven so if i spend the extra buck for 980ti i ll also get a 6700k

Well you don't NEED a sky lake CPU. Maybe a Xeon 1241v3 and 980ti

If you are really concerned about great wifi you should take a look at the Asus z170 deluxe, heard nothing but great comments about the new wifi system on that mobo from newegg tv, teksyndicate and others. Probably a lot more expensive though.

Still does not affect performance, didn't with Ivy Bridge, doesn't now.

Overclocking performance is definitely effected from board to board.

- more expensive than hero or gaming 7with asus ac 68 pci (Which btw i could reuse in a later build)

- doesnt fit my build color wise (Blue) and that io panel is ugly as fuck

- else great board.

He did not mention overclocking in his post, thus performance would not matter

Then why does he want a 6700K?

ehm if i wouldnt oc i'd buy the i5 4460

i'll definitely oc them. though midly in the beginning and then later on if my perf should feel lackluster to the max...

my cryorig cooler has the same power as a corsair h110 on medium fan settings

so OC should be possible!
