They are given when users do certain things like become a Folding team member or BOINC team member. If you also make donations to the forum - depending on the amount - you could be eligible for Bronze, Silver, or Gold contributor awards. If you feel you should have one, contact Windspeed36 or Whaler_99. Also, if you feel you're knowledgeable in certain areas, you can get the Trusted Advisor award in those areas like I have.

You get them for a ton of things, some are exclusive to donators to certain campaigns like the office building or way at the start.

By the way, I'm at 9.5K posts and don't have any user award :(

I would have imagined that making such requests would have been frowned upon.

It's different if you say something like "I feel I'm knowledgeable in [insert area]. Not sure if the team agrees." I didn't mean to say it like "Oh, I'm knowledgeable in these areas so can I get the Trusted Advisor award?"

I know. I just never remember which ones I have. Although I'll have to figure out what it takes to get the Bender one (like you have). I feel as though I should meet the requirements. TO THE GOD-AWFULLY OLD PM!!!

Well yes quite, there's a distinct difference between those two sentences.
