Is it just me or are NVIDIA drivers getting worse and worse?

TrickyWitcher

It seems that almost every driver since 347.88 has been riddled with crashing, stuttering, etc.

My SO's AMD build is having no issues on 15.7.1(Windows 8.1) and my 980Ti build on 353.30(Windows 8.1) is having a plethora of issues, from Chrome crashing, to games stuttering(mainly CS:GO). I also tried the latest, and it's even worse, so I rolled back.

It seems to me that AMD is better for drivers now.

AMD takes their time, and while it may be too much time, it also means that it's stable and usually offers a decent FPS boost.

NVIDIA may release quickly and efficiently, which is great for new games, but it seems to screw over current games and general usage.

I wish 347.88 supported the 980Ti...

353.30 has known issues. (I thought there were many patches since then...)

You can try the beta drivers and see if they help. They are generally as stable as regular release ones to be honest.

Might be because they're trying to get things to work on Windows 10.

Could be. A lot of people are pissed about their drivers these days.

I run two 780 Ti's in my Intel/Nvidia build so I hardly even get drivers anymore :P

The nvidia drivers for me have never crashed during gaming. Sometimes after waking my computer. (Check your overclocks).

The most recent update has lowered performance for me. (Windows 10)

I watched a Youtuber and his nVidia drivers crashed MC twice each episode.

He is a very average Youtuber.

Well guess I'll just get my money back and get myself a 390. A tiny bit better than a GTX 970, 8GB of RAM, and cheaper here...

much higher power consumption, louder, nowhere near as modern features, worse driver support...lower performance in most games but a few.

Been having a few issues on Win 10. Few crashes on games and Victor Vran (which I'm currently playing) stutters like crazy. I get drops to 30-40 FPS on a freaking 980 Ti at 1080p. I tried reverting to the previous driver to see if it would help. It did a little bit but still have stuttering. It's frustrating.

i heard dx12 will make it possible for GPU to fully utilize vram, would that mean the era of AMD? cause if it does then i'm totally screwed for just buying 970

Yes, I am. I just asked the store, they said they could give me a 390 plus whatever cash is left over from returning the 980Ti.

Not really what I'd advise to do since the 390 is significantly less performing than a 980 Ti... :/

It is, but what does it matter if my games crash or stutter? My Skyrim is acting weird as hell. Unmodded...

Think about it, it's a 390 for 1080p, and an extra $350 sitting in my pocket.

Nvidia has the worse drivers as of right now, the pendulum swings from camp to camp. Eventually AMD will have the worse drivers again, then back to Nvidia, and so on...

There are no beta drivers as of right now. Latest one is WHQL.

I'm on 10 but I'm also in the midst of actually installing and overclocking. I haven't gamed yet (on my 980ti). I haven't had issues on my 660m but lol @ that.

With that extra $350 I'll get a new SSD, case and PSU. Not that 750W isn't overkill for the 390, because it is, but because my current PSU makes a loud annoying buzzing when starting up, and it lasts for 5 minutes before stopping.
