Linux Distro for privacy/ looks

Go to solution Solved by rtpb5642,

you can't escape the age of the internet!

Kali linux is about as far of the grid as u can be and its very very secure.

So with these recent studies of Windows 10 and how much personal data is being sent to Microsoft servers, I just decided that I want to give Linux a try. Which distro should I chose that will keep at least most of my information private and also looks good? Yes, almost all of my personal data is already known, but give me some peace of mind. I was thinking elementaryOS or Ubuntu.

Spoiler

i5 4670k, GTX 970, 12GB 1600, 120GB SSD, 240GB SDD, 1TB HDD, CM Storm Quickfire TK, G502, VG248QE, ATH M40x, Fractal R4

Spoiler

i5 4278U, Intel Iris Graphics, 8GB 1600, 128GB SSD, 2560x1600 IPS display, Mid-2014 Model

Spoiler

All the parts are here, just need to get customized cords to connect the motherboard to the front panel.

Unless you plan on using TOR, most browsers collect data too btw, and your isp etc.

alright just as long as there aren't as many data collecting features as Windows 10

The 100% privacy method is keeping your computer unplugged inside a container that blocks out microwaves. Don't forget to triple fasten a tin foil hat.

Serious answer: I use Linux Mint when I want to tinker with a Linux distro.

Kali linux is not for security, it is for penetration testing and various other hacking.

It's is not for day to day use, if you plan on breaking into your neighbors WiFi, or are into corporate espionage and actually know what kali is for.

To put it simply, if you didn't even know what kali is and don't know what it is actually meant for, don't download or use it.

It's also needlessly big to download due to the wealth of built in hacking packages.

Choose a better distro, given that you may be new to linux, try ubuntu or debian.

Also on debain and ubuntu you have access to a larger amount of packages that are very useful for day to day use.

For looks, you can choose an alternative ubuntu such as Xubuntu or Kubuntu... Either way you can install whichever desktop environment you like on whichever distro.

Comb it with a brick
