True. Not everyoone cares about saving money. Some people the like the best and newest thing.

That's fine then, they can waste use their money on the newest tech, but saving $50-100 could mean upgrading other components, like being able to get a 980 ti instead of a 980, and considering 99% of people are on a budget(whether it be $500 or $2500), it is smarter for most to save this money(or put it towards other components that would give a higher % of performance/needs) than to spend it on epeen.

I can't believe it needs to be spelled out for a self proclaimed enthusiast, but there is this magical thing called 'price to performance ratio'. Haswell isn't even CLOSE to being dead. I'm still suggesting Nehalem CPUs to people despite them being well over 5 years old, so get the hell out of here with this self-righteous garbage. Everything has its place, and tech enthusiast does not mean "I like burn all your money on bleeding edge tech". Tech enthusiasts understand the direction tech is developing and choose the sweet spot of performance depending on budget. People like you give tech enthusiasts a bad name. Unless you NEED those extra pcie lanes for 4 way sli/crossfire(which I strongly suggest against) and happen to have piles of money to burn on DDR4, there is literally NO REASON to go with Z170.

I know some of you might be sentimental and all that, but it's time to move on. Recomending an outdated platform for new builds is laughable if you're an enthusiast. Nothing lasts forever(esp. in tech) and this is making you look stupid. Please stop.

my 4690K based system from a year ago is still rocking along just fine, it wont have the newest CPU nor Mobo, but im not gonna spend the $800 or so just to upgrade the cpu/mobo/ram for minimal gain, when i'd see much more value in a 1440p monitor.

 

Haswell will still be viable until they stop selling it.

You're an idiot. You can build a 4790k system with high end z97 motherboard with 2133mhz cl9 ram for about 100euro/$ less than a 6700k with cheapest z170 mobo and shitty 2666mhz cl16 ram. The actual good ddr4 ram costs double the above ddr3 ram.

Let's not forget that an i7 2600k/2700k are still kicking ass to this day.
