how hot is too hot?

Hello, my name is Dino and I built my first computer. I just finished it two days ago and my cpu temps at desktop are near the high 30s to low 40s my question is should I be worried and buy some more fans or is that fine for a overclocked 5820K at desktop. Currently I'm using the two case fans that came with my Fractal Define R5. Any help with this would go a long way.

What is your cpu cooler?

Load temps are what really matter though.

Anything below 70-75 under load is great, below 80 is good enough and I would be uncomfortable with something hotter than 85.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

thats perfect if that oc'd  and under load reaching 40 degree then you have yourself an awsome setup but why not oc it to lik 4 or 4.2?

30s-40s is great for that cpu if you're on air. I wouldn't worry unless you notice it constantly in the high 80s, and even then, its fine.

When in doubt, re-format.

make up your own mind, 105c is max before imminent shutdown for (almost) all intel cpu's.

90c or higher is usually too hot.

as for the overclock this is my first computer build and I didn't want to mess with the oc to much I just used oc genie with my msi gaming 7 motherboard

 my most demanding title I have right now is tomb raider, according to real temp my cpu hit 59 at one point but its mostly at 52

What are your temps under load? The screenshot only shows it just above idiling.

Idle temps don't mean much unless they're alot higher than the ambient temps of the room you're in.

Without knowing your ambient temps and load temps its hard to really judge.

My FX-8370 is mostly at 55-70 on load but rarely bumps up to 80...

70+ for AMD processors is baddddd. They aren't designed to withstand as much heat as Intel. Also AMD temp sensors can be iffy, so what could be showing as 70, could be 80.
