6700k i7 vs more expensive cpus

is 6700k i7 the fastest cpu chip ? cause it seems the 4960k or 58xxk is more expensive ?

talking about chips that fits in z97 , z87 z170 motherboards

not those x99 chips

Theoretically yes.

According to Intel yes.

the 4790k preforms better in real world gaming situations and overclocks better.

Most people get it up  to 4.7 (6700k) and I got my 4790k up to 4.9 and beyond stable :U so you know

4960K doesn't exist. It would either be 4960X (6 core) or 4690K (4 core, slower than the 6700k)

The 6700K is currently the fastest CPU that isn't enthusiast grade.

The 6700K is not the 'fastest' CPU out there. The reason that CPUs like the 4960X and 5960X are way more expensive is because they will destroy the 6700K in the majority of scenarios. In terms of CPUs that are just part of Z87, Z97, and Z170 - the 6700K is pretty much the best you can get as of now.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

Are you referring to the Xeon's?

The Core i7's like the i7-4790K, i7-5775C, and i7-6700K is not Enthusiast; They are Mainstream Core i7's.

The Intel Extreme i7's (i.e. i7-5960X) are the Enthusiast grades chips.

Ok I see you are a little confused

There are mainstream and enthusiast cpus

Mainstream is what a normal person needs for everyday use that can also run professional applications

Enthusiasts are for people that want more than normal and are willing to pay extra for a little increase here in there depending on the application, some enthusiasts i7s are also super good for rendering and more

But in case of gaming you don't need an i7 all you need is an i5, it's a good 4 core cpu that is all you need,

This is coming from a guy that is still on an fx 6300 since I still can't upgrade yet because school comes first

Edit: if anyone wants to add on about performance increase because I'm not sure if it's 5% or 10% increase from z97 to z170 don't wanna say something that is wrong

Yes that one is the fastest mainstream one but the performance jump from the 4790k isn't a big difference...

The new i7 is the connection from haswell to the new batch of skylake

So the new one uses the new type of memory and different motherboard for a bit more money, it's close to the same performance on both

4960 does exist it is x79. all the 5(8/9)xx(k/x) chips are x99.

The 5775c is currently the best gaming cpu in the world (due to edram, but I would expect to see skylake with edram soon). the 6700k is next (outside of the 5960x).

But the 4790k 5775c and 6700k are very close in all cases.

Well, the 5820K/5930K/5960X are X99; 4960X is X79.

Technically, when comparing per-core and per-clock performance, the i7-6700K is the fastest consumer Intel chip available. That said, it's not much faster than comparable Haswell products in actual applications, and it can fall behind the X99 processors in workloads where it's fewer cores matter.

And as said above, the i7-5775C is shockingly strong in some games.
