Old card question

Kinuubi

So I recently took out my old "gaming" laptop and cleaned the whole thing. The graphics card in is a Geforce 425m. Just wanted to know if it could run games well. Swtor is the primary game I will play. Thanks guys!

I really don't know, that's an olllllld laptop GPU if that's the case. I would say it won't be running the latest games at all, maybe some Source games at low, but that'd be pushing it tbh. Older laptop GPUs were far lower performance compared to desktop counterparts than they are now (they're getting on to 80% the performance nowadays. Pretty good.)

It's around Haswell integrated graphics (a bit slower than HD4600 iirc)...so, it won't run any current games well (or even any games from the past couple years well) -- at least not above 720p.

What's the CPU? if it's at least a Core 2 machine you could probably do some other useful things with it if that suited you.

I had a 435m in my old laptop and I was able to play games (BF3/Borderlands 2/Arkham Asylum & City/Dota) decently well at 720p, I'm not sure about Swtor, but I'd say try it out and see how well it performs.

If it has a 425m it's probably an i3/i5/i7.

You could turn it into a media PC or a fileserver, or a firewall if that floated your boat at all. It's not a bad throw-around laptop in all honesty.
