720p youtube requirements?

Ivelin
Go to solution Solved by Tech_Dreamer,

Wow, wow, wow, wait a bit. I don't plan on builing a new system:

1) I have 20€

2) The case is sff, the mobo is mirror of a (m)atx mobo and I am 99% sure not even itx will go in

3) Computer is not mine, I use it only in the summer because it's the closest one with internet, there was a router but it got killed(electricity quality is shit) and only the computer can now have internet.

wow, in that case your best option is to carry your own hardware over to it :/ otherwise  nothing viable even if you somehow find a way to increase ram it still wouldn't help because the cpu would just hold it back, best option is to get a deal where you can get a used PC internals & replace theirs or convince them that their hardware is severely outdated & needs to be upgraded, chances are they will fund it

I am trying to watch 720p(non 60 fps) on a old pc(DC7100 SFF) and the highest it can go is 480p, at 720p the sound comes before the display, the display is lagging.

The cpu is a P4 540J, 1gb ddr1 ram. It's used for Skype only by an old lady, I can't watch youtube on my phone so I have to go there(0.05mb\s download on mobile network).

What is the problem? Is it the CPU or the RAM? The ram is easier to upgrade, the mobo is 915 chipset, no dual-core support.

Check task manager and see if the cpu/ ram usage spikes when you watch a video.

It's the iGPU. Try using vlc to stream the video or downloading it. Make sure flash is installed, as bad as it is it's still lighter than html5.

So a gt210 512 mb would "boost" it and 720p youtube will run ok?

you definitely need a minor upgrade either get both a low profile gpu & an apu/cpu or just buy a good enough APU from amd at low cost or if the budget allows go with an i3 with integrated graphics, afterwards you'll do good..

also 720-1080p requires atleast 1-2 gigs of ram atleast 1 in ddr2

how do i know all this you ask? i run a sempron 145 with 1 gig ddr2

Yeah VLC is very good. I approve.

Your issue would be the graphics card. What socket is your motherboard? You may be able to find an APU that can suit your needs.

Its Intel... As in Pentium 4. So no APU.

If you try to run it in 720p30 it should in theory work.

I think that's not even an option, it's either 720p60 or 480p, you can't choose 720p30.

No wait, I could be wrong, I just downloaded a 720p30 version of a video, but the player itself doesn't let you go to 720p30.

I have a gt 210 1 gb, I may give that one to my cousin, he has a 512mb old one, and use the old in this pc, so total cost is 0$/£/€/¥

Some videos aren't 60fps, like the one on console so... Even if the video is 60fps it would still be better than now.

Oh sure, videos that are not 60FPS will be at 30, but when they are at 60, you can't really chose, at least not in the player itself.

the iGPU in the P4 does not have the codec to decode new video formats, so it relies on CPU to decode.

and there isn't much CPU.

The iGPU isn't in the CPU, that's LGA775- it's on the chipset, it is bad- GMA950 I think. Just correcting you. iGPU in CPU is from 1156.

With $20 ? a micro USB to ethernet adapter for your phone would probably be better at that point.

Or buy a used router somewhere.
