Ok guys, so I have exactly $1000 to spend on my system. I have an AMD FX-6350 left over from an old build that I can use if need be but I'd like to build a system around an i5 4690k. If I go with a GTX 960 in the system I can afford the Intel set up but if I want a GTX 970 I will have to stick with my AMD board. What do I do?

The Mobo/CPU/Memory are a combo deal on Newegg so I just deducted the combo savings from the memory to make it simple. The cooler I'm getting from a friend.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/badarang/saved/#view=bzvQzy

Edit: The full price of the combo is $396.99 so if you guys can find me a suitable mobo and memory to go with the 4690k that will save me some cash please do. (More than 8gb is not needed for me right now, I can just upgrade later.)

Your CPU is going to hold back the 970 if you stay with the 6350. I'll create a parts list for you, give me a sec

EDIT: Here. CPU will do just as well in games, and you don't need the AIO for it.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($176.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($125.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($97.95 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB ACX 2.0 Video Card  ($326.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Other: RAM ($7.01)
Total: $991.35
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I think that CPU should be "ok". How good, I am not sure as I really don't know my AMD. But will it bottleneck the 970? I don't think so... maybe a little, but not enough to bring the 970 down to a 960 level of power I don't think......

An 8350 bottlenecks a 970, a 6350 will hold it back a hell of a lot.

Badarang,

To be honest with only a $100 difference I would wait and save and get everything that I want.  Try to sacrifice performance in one way or another for a 10% price difference because of impatience does not seem wise.

Hope this helps.

Does the 8350 bottleneck it? I thought the 6350 was similar to a 3570 ish in performance. Not as good as the i5, but close ish. And a 3570 wouldn't hold back a 970 at all. But, like I said, I don't know the red camp at all.

Just save enough money for a 970 and maybe a new CPU.

Yes, it does. The 6350 is beaten by, or on par with a G3258 in games. It does better in multi threaded tasks, due to its 6 (technically) cores. But it's nowhere near a 3570

He can get 8GB of RAM for $7 according to his part list, so that will save some extra money. He could go for a Xeon 1231v3 for a little more than the 4690K and get even better performance overall from the CPU and not need the aftermarket cooler.

I do plan on overclocking if I get the 4690k and my friend is giving to me for a pretty good deal new so fuck it. And is there a subreddit for the windows deal or?

The memory was $7 because of the combo but if I don't go with that specific board it's full price.

Ah, that post wasn't there when I replied ):

It can still work out cheaper if you go with the board and RAM that @byalexandr suggested in his part list.

The board is really too expensive for the combo to save anything, although it is nice.
