suddenly instant shutdown and reboot, only encountered in CS:GO

i have experienced that my pc is suddenly restarting. no errors or BSOD messages that i can find. recently i changed my GPU to a MSI GTX 980. and i started to wonder if it was my PSU that did not give enough power to my system, then again it only does it in CS GO and not when im playing Witcher 3 on ultra settings for hours, which IMO should consume more power than CS GO on low settings.

 

what i have tried:

-checked for overhearing on CPU and GPU (nothing abnormal)

35 idle/60 load for CPU while gaming

about same for GPU

-removing all overclocks etc.

-troubleshooting my problem for hours online.

-disabling automatic reboot, so i could get some kind of error message (still no error messages)

-re-installing and clean installing GPU drivers.

-updated all drivers.

 

(im trying to format my PC a the moment, just to eleminate all kinds of software related errors)

 

my systemspecs:

 

CPU: Intel i5-4670k @ 3.4Ghz

GPU: MSI gtx 980

MB: MSI Z87 g45

Ram: 16gb @ 1866hz

PSU: Coolermaster g750m 750W

windows 8.1

Edit: ran prime95 for 15 minutes (blend) no problems

this has happend to me more than once also. all i did was take out all the psu cables then reconnect them

but if something is overheating while i play csgo, would it not be overheating during an hour long prime95 test or 4 hours or witcher 3 on ultra graphics? i have thourght about my PSU and its a tier 3 one, but that should also make it restart in prime95 blend test, or other gamesright?

i completely re-installed windows yesterday and notheing new was happening. still only reboot in csgo. and i just ran a scan with windows defender no malware to report.

Tried Malwarebytes & Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool? (if not get a small HDD/SSD and install Ubuntu and install Steam+CS:GO on that!)

tried those two programs, no malware or virus what so ever. The strangest thing is that yesterday i played witcher 3 for 10 hours straight. no problems at all ran smoother as ever. so i have no idea what can cause this problem since its only occuring in CS:GO.

Uninstalled the game and all the content from CS i could find on my PC. also unsubbed on all steam content and disabled cloud. normal re-install? maybe start steam as administrator?

It's not recommended to use prime95 on Haswell CPUs (Best not to use it at all).

It has the risk of spiking the voltage on your CPU and killing it. 

Use Aida64 from now on.

Try removing the GPU and playing CSGO on the integrated GPU; If it crashes then, it may be either PSU, GPU, or (rare) Mobo.

OK, so i swapped my gtx 980 back to my old GPU (r9 280x) and no crashes so far. does this mean that it might have been a bad Card (my gtx) ?

It could either mean a bad card, or PSU. 

Given that it's only in CSGO so far, i'm going to ask you to try another source engine game (TF2, Half life 2, etc) with the 980. 

Also, try putting an FPS limit on in CSGO (fps_max 64)  It's what I usually do to keep it above 60 without fluctuations, but in this case it will limit how hard your GPU works.
