How to upgrade out of AMD and into Intel?

he1senberg

First off, like always, hope you're all having a good day.

Anyways, so here's where I'm standing. I currently have an AMD fx-6300 and a AsRock 980DE/US3 if I'm not mistaken. I'm looking for what would be the best Intel cpu/mobo combo to purchase taking into consideration relevance in the future, upgradeability, and of course, the price tag.

I'd say the best bet is to grab a Z97 board, a 4690K, and a decent cooler. Then you can OC it when it starts to slow down, which won't be for a while. Or wait for the Skylake equivalent.

Well depends. Most people get a i5-4460 and the cheapest h97, h87, or h81 board they can. Some may get a z97 because they wanna upgrade to a 4790k in the future.

That depends on your use case, budget, other components and so on.

If you're looking for the best entry point for gaming, then a H97 board and a 4460 is a good choice. The board will allow you to upgrade the CPU later if you need to.

i'm dying to recommend you a 4690K, but wait for skylake, and perhaps even zen.

I'm guessing Skylake is an upcoming Intel chipset?

I have a giant CM cooler so thankfully that's one thing ticked off.

That's kinda what I meant, I think, like Sandy Bridge, etc. right? Or is architecture something completely different?
