Is it a good Budget CPU?

I already have a Z97-K Motherboard (660ti, 8gb Hyper X Beast Ram, H75 AIO, CX500W PSU, Corsair Spec 03)

And i've got about £140 for a cpu, based on LGA 1150, The only CPU I've managed to get in that price range is the Intel Core i5 4460?

Should I go with that CPU?

Probably your best option, but you have Z board which is a bit of a waste... unless you can save up for the 4690k

It's only really for a mainstream sort of normal gaming pc, I'm not going to be playing CPU intensive games etc, I just need a CPU For around that price, that's solid for me to use.

Sure as I said the 4460 is a perfectly good CPU, just a bit of a waste of the Z series board :D

But it will still be fine

I bought it a while ago, was thinking of switching over to AMD, But then that'd mean having to buy another mobo, So i just stuck with the Z97 Board for now, and I'll probably upgrade early next year anyway knowing me.

Yep. Excellent choice of CPU for gaming. One of the best currently available. Don't listen to people telling you to save for an i7 - it's not worth spending almost twice as much for almost no improvement in gaming performance. You can be confident in your choice, it's a good one. :)

Probably your best option, but you have Z board which is a bit of a waste... unless you can save up for the 4690k

It's actually not, depending on what features you want. I upgraded a couple months ago to a Z97 board and I have a locked i5-4570 (which I still overclocked to 3.74 anyways :P ). One  of the reasons for doing so was to give me the option to run SLI if I wanted to some time in the future - something you wouldn't be able to do with an H or B series board. (By SLI, I mean at least 2 slots that run at 8x/8x instead of 16x/4x like most boards that only support crossfire).

Now, depending on which Z97 board the OP went with, they may or may not have SLI support, but it's just some food for thought. ;)

Yeah ^^^

Don't go with AMD, you've got Z97 motherboard. If you go with AMD, the Z97 motherboard would go to waste (need compatible motherboard).

See games benchmark, you'll know why we choose Intel.

We can use AMD part too, but it depends on the usage, for gaming AMD CPUs perform worse than Intel.

Just because they perform a little better doesn't mean they smash them. Hopefully OP will have a reason to switch over to and when Zen comes out.

Besides, he's got Z97 motherboard. If he switches to AMD he'll need new motherboard as well, he'll pay more.

Some games make a huge difference, if you see games that is CPU intensive you'll see more performance difference.

Why the Z97 board? Is it still possible to return it? If you aren't going to overclock, and you aren't going to use SLI/Crossfire, there's no point in paying the extra for a Z97 motherboard. H97 or less would be fine.

But yeah, any of the Haswell Core i5's are fantastic. I'm not sure I'd call them "budget," though. Even the 4460 is a mid/high-end gaming CPU. Very good for it's price.

Ok, I've heard good and bad about them before, The Z97 Board has what I need.

BEST CPU EVER ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ON A BUDGET FOR GAMING THIS CPU IS A BEAST

Thaaaankyou, everyone else is suggesting i7's and shit, when i'm strictly on a budget for the cpu  which they don't understand.

Why would you switch to AMD and have a WORSE CPU

I wasn't sure, the more cores, but cheaper price was actually better for me, Just for reasons the AMD CPU Would of done things better than the intel one. I'm sticking with intel now anyway so it's fine.

Idk, a friend of mine uses an 8350 And he say's it's not even that bad (He does have 760's in sli) so idk

As i've said I'm only spending £140 on cpu, I'm not after overclocking right now, if i do want to I'll upgrade in the future.

because adding £20 for something better is a reasonable suggestion

faster clock speed, faster turbo speed, and unlocked for future OCing

IF !!! you can spare an extra £20 for the 4690k you 100% should

Also, once you are at the I5 level with intel there is basically no reason to go AMD, since you can just upgrade to an i7 or something later if you wanter better performance for rendering (arguably the only reason to get AMD but that falls behind intel too) - so yeah, thats why

it's not that bad if you are stuck with it, but no one should willingly get one right now. it used to be okay 2 years ago.

Well, I do understand that you are on a budget, but £20 more for something far better is not much is it? It's on sale as well.

But each to their own ey. All in all, that cpu will be sufficient.

But if you don't plan on overclocking, then you've made the wrong choice on the motherboard, as there is no point in having a more expensive z board instead of a B or an H board...
