Drivers is mute at this point, but energy does cost money and specifically (and only with) Hawaii based gpus it should be brought up.

100 W difference at 3 hours a day with energy costs of 20 cents per kWH is 22 dollars a year which more than accounts for cost differences IFF (if and only if) performance is comparable. Obviously AC is actually more expensive than the energy cost itself due to heat generation but that's impossible to specify and may be offset by winter heating savings.

Personally the only time I worry about energy consumption is if it requires a more expensive psu (which most of the time it doesn't), if everything else is near equal, or if someone is considering a 295x2 (cause that shit is crazy and puts a lot of limitations on builds).

Below Hawaii energy consumption isn't big enough difference to matter, and with Fiji vs gm100 it's basically a wash either way.

Btw I generally recommend 390 over 970 but they are close enough that I don't really get butt hurt either way.

I dont recommend the 960 ever because the 380 is noticeably better value.

I also don't recommend fury x unless small form factor because it's current overclocking is so fucking terrible and EVEN if in the unspecified future it gets amazing, it really doesn't seem sensible to buy a high end product now that is worse than a similarly price product because in the unforseen future it MIGHT be better.

If that makes me a fanboy o well.

Depends on prices. Over here, it's about a 16 eu difference yearly between a 280 and a 970 whereas the 970 costs about 150 eu more so to end up costing the same I'd have to use the 280 for about 10 years

960 is only 60 eu more but that's still a good 5 years or so.

We calculated with 12/7 use i think.

Well, Hawaii is a power hog but the new "Grenada" is only what, 215W TDP? Compared to the 170W TDP of the 970. Make that 7 years before the 970 makes up the difference in savings. That also relies on me having a good PSU and not a cheapo 60% efficiency one tho

Oh come on, 225W TDP of a 9590 is overkill ._.

AMD(ATI) Use to be on top of Nvidia in efficiency and acoustics for so long and nvidia was the rebrand wagon for the entirety of the 8000, 9000 and 200 series but nobody noticed that ._.

But yeah, Nvidia are only really able to push the efficiency thing in lappys, not in desktops as far as I am concerned.

Except this is what people do the most on this forum, recommend things based on their preference. 

It's like this

"Sorry, i just prefer a lower heat output and power consumption and features instead of performance so that's why i recommend a 960 over 285/380"

It is good to point out all the advantages and disadvantages of both products being compared. Depending on what other parts the person has, and based on his needs, I may emphasize power consumption quite a bit, or as a sidenote. I would generally recommend a 380 over a 960, but in some cases a 960 would be better.

Well with a 290 vs 970, it can cost up to around $30 per year. That is with playing for four hours a day, and with a higher power cost. If you only play for two hours per day and have a more normal cost, it will be closer to $10 per year.
