Spending that much on a monitor and having a GPU that may not live the task....

:/

I know you can go for cheaper.

(Also B&H charges no tax if you live outside of New York (City?)

Who shops there anyway when they probably charge outrageous shipping fees.

Actually it's free (to at least Twin Cities+Suburbs)

and a monitor. also, mail in rebates are useless, so you're looking at about $700 right there. Not werf at all.

If you bought a console you need a TV already, so you can use the TV for the PC.

Using a zip code for a place in Anaheim, CA it seems B&H ships there for free as well.

I think that's what holds me back I care too much about aesthetic and reliability you sort of have to give that up when you go cheaper.

SteamOS still doesn't have the greatest game support.

Neither have I, they just have good prices so I've looked at the shipping prices. The free shipping seems pretty shite though.

You can't execpt much for a Game OS, other wise use Linux.

But no sales tax (even though MN sales tax (for my area) isn't bad.) (7.125%) Also they seem to have a lot of things that I want that Best Buy unfortunately doesn't.

I know. (SteamOS is a Linux distro)

Amazon and Steam have sales tax here in Spokane. Which is $0.087 to the dollar. Which is crazy, a 390 on Amazon has almost $30 tax.

7.125%

It's freaking 9.5% here.

;) And yet Minnesota is becoming the best state for quite a lot of things, and the most livable state. Our governor while maybe not as progressive as I'd like has fixed the mess our previous governor made.

@EarthboundHero I don't think I paid sales tax when I bought Thief when it was on sale for like $4 (Steam)

I think Amazon has sales tax here though.

That's why i ask friends in Canada to buy games for me. They pay no tax at all and prices are lower than US prices.

Also, it's 9.5 percent tax here in Bellevue, so consider yourself lucky.

@Bubblewhale Eh MN doesn't have that much in terms of technology (besides a few Apple stores and One MS Store and One Micro Center. (Oh and Best Buy))
@themaniac and @FuzzyYellow can vouch for the general lack of diversity for tech in MN.

Yay OT!

Anyways MN Min wage is going up to $9.50 by next year (Youth Minimum wage will be going up to $7.75 next year too, it will be at $7.25 next month) also inflation indexing will begin Jan 1st 2018. So that's pretty cool stuff (I guess.)

So console killers to min wages....this is fun.

Anyway on topic, 860K/i3 with used 7850/70 would be the best console killer....if you can ever achieve it at this price point....

I know you said you didn't want ones with mail-in-rebates, but this seems like it could do the trick.

Even includes a (functional?) keyboard and mouse.

$25 on softwareswap for Windows 8 Pro and you're good the go.

Dont forget the $100 you pay for  legit windows licence is only $40 than what you pay for just one year of Xbox Live etc, so its not so bad really

Plus they have to pay it every year so after one year the PC is basically $60 cheaper every year

So Xbox One over 5 years (RRP Prices)

$350 + $60 + $60 + $60 + $60 + $60 = $650 without games or accessories

PC - $400  or $600 with Monitor, Keyboard Mouse and Windows licence

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

I know, but people always complain that software swap/ g2a etc are "cheating" even though its a valid way to get a licence

I was just making a point that even if you have to spend $100 on windows.... a console user has to spend $40-60 a year just to access online
