I've been sitting at my desk for 30 minutes reading two lame art stories that I have to write an essay on; comparing and contrasting the similarities between the two characters in both short stories. I have nothing, and both characters seem interested in art.. that's it. They're nothing alike. The introduction is due in about 45 minutes. Oh well, I give up. Does anyone else struggle? I mean I actually hate school and dropped out for a year in the past. I never study or complete homework, but still manage to pass with a 60%. This is the first time attempting to do homework in 7 years lol.

Maybe I'm just weak, or don't give two dildos even though school is "important".

I was dreadfully bad at some subjects. When I was 17, I found Maths extremely hard. I passed but nothing special. I wish I had done better - but that's that, no point crying over it.

I feel the same way. I always got behind on work and didnt bother to finish it until finals week. do not do this, it is highly recommended to not do this. Just go in before/after school and ask for help, some teachers will put you ahead of others if you show that you are showing effort.

I know that feels. I just got finished with a semester of a lame ass business class which was essentially a 5 week long corporate empowerment powerpoint presentation.

Everything in that class was bullshit. Didn't even read the textbook at all, still got an A

Gotta make yourself do the work though. Learn to just make up bullshit on a subject you don't care about, and that no one has ever truly cared about,, because it's useless garbage that you will NEVER use in your entire life.

I struggled with my first two years of uni but that was because of medical issues that caused me to miss classes and be too wiped to even attempt most homework.

Yeah I mean I understand everything but coming up with something, pulling things out of something is really difficult. Maybe I don't get enough sleep, but if I was given straight questions I could do it.

I struggle with work that I get assigned, even if it's for a subject that I enjoy. I can work very well if it's for my own project, or something that I decided myself, but if it was assigned to me by someone else, I find it hard to get motivation to do it.

I always found English essays easy.

Pull the weirdest, most stupid nonsense I could out of my own arse, fluff it up with something I heard someone else say and go over it vaguely. I HATED writing things like what you've mentioned.

I have struggled throughout my schooling career. I always found the best way I can do things is to just do them. It sounds stupid like one those "If I could, I would" types of things. But it isn't. You need to tighten up the reigns, buckle down and work. It's that simple .

Hmm yeah I used to in the past but then when I was about 18 I really just wisened up. In fact I was the one who pulled the strings or did all the work in each project group if the others were too lazy. (which was often) Not to say I was extremely good or anything but I did well.

Before that I didn't bother much with school thinking 'it will work itself out', but yeah... being a teenager eh.

I absolutely hated high school. All it was is just a bunch busy work. Moat of it doesn't show intelligence anyways. It just shows work ethic. I did like history that is from yesterday to about 200 years ago. U.S history that is.

But yeah, I am not a good student myself either. Short attention span and lack of motivation doesn't help.

I don't really do homework either. 9 hours of a normal school day is spent in school already, and then you should do homework for 2 - 5 more hours, and expect to get more than 8 hours of sleep... yeah... Not happening. A lot of times when there's something like essays that need to be done, I have to skip sleep to do them, there's not enough hours in a day.

I would do some of the "unnecessary but recommended" schoolwork, if I have motivation for the subject. For example I have absolutely no motivation to learn Swedish (which is obligatory, WHY!?), and because of that, I keep failing it. And I don't have motivation to learn it, since while it's our "2nd official language", only Swedes really use it here. On other subjects I don't do well, but I pass them all.

Pretty much the only subjects I do well in, is English, RE (religions) and social studies (how society works, laws etc.), as they are easy and straight-forward, plus I have at least some motivation to learn those subjects. History and geography too, but they don't go as well...

As for group projects... I'm left alone. I have to do everything by myself (and fail), or then I get forced into some group, and they don't let me do anything. And there's a little less than 20 people in each class, and less than 100 students in the entire high school (yes, it's that small, and poor too). Oh well... At least no-one bullies me there, unlike back in middle school and elementary, but got no friends, and most likely won't get any in my 3rd and final year (senior year) there. Not that friends would be necessary, but would be nice to have one or two.

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

And this is why I hated public schools.. Teaching you useless crap that you don't need in the real world when they should be teaching based on individual student interest and career goals. Highschool should work like a college setting where the student picks a field of interest and takes classes based around that career field. Students would have much higher grades due to being interested and therefore engaged in what the teacher is saying, as well as a decrease in drop-outs and students being held back..

Essays are the worst. I always own multiple choice tests (getting highest mark in the class owning) but when it comes to essays i barely finish and get marks that dissappoint me. The best way to get past essays is to just BS your way through the paragraphs, making connections out of thin air.

I can sometimes, mostly with math so I just don't bother.

I personally find homework rather boring so again I just don't bother. Though last year (9th grade) most of the time we were given time in class to do/finish homework. So eh idk.

I wonder how next year will go (2015-16)...

Sounds like me in school, so I went to an alternate school and learned what I needed then went to college for any thing I didn't learn at the alternate school (12th grade math..)

I struggled a lot with school when I was younger, so I understand the feeling. Even though I really loved school it became so frustrating to me that I hated waking up in the morning. I don't have any advice or anything to say on it beyond that, but I hope it becomes less of a struggle for you.

Well an update: I am becoming a little more tolerable day by day. Haven't skipped for 2 weeks. A really large part was sleep, and I actually did homework yesterday. Thanks everyone. My social anxiety is becoming less and less every day. I'm even excited to perform a speech on the dangers of the internet.

I haven't felt this great about school for YEARS. No idea why now though.

I find school relatively difficult at times - partially with motivation for homework because it often has no relevance to the lessons we've been having or what we're going to end up doing next, but is still mandatory, so while I've never got in trouble I always rush it. I'm of the sensible type so if I do end up avoiding homework for whatever reason, I can blame it on my violin or saxophone lessons (which are legit things and one benefit is getting out of homework, as well as the general being more musical and more experienced with the instruments, which helps for the youth folk band I'm in).

Also being raised in the 60's and 70's across the US, my mother sees a very different approach to how it is here. She doesn't support the idea of British stiff upper lip and she's wanted to homeschool me a couple of times. The management in our opinion is terrible with them acting far less mature than the majority of students whom behave decently. They say that we're a good school then we get a bad grade in the OfSTED (nationwide school inspection thing) because of maths which I don't even believe is the problem because the top sets are excelling and being in top set for my year, some people are doing better in me in the year after in top set.

I manage to outsmart them sometimes and I can't really get into trouble for that but I'm kind of the anti-troublemaker if I can say so myself.

Wish we could move to California...but then I'd lose my friends who'd miss me tons...

And for GCSEs, we had to make relatively specific choices and the school has been pressuring those whom the software couldn't be fit in. Here's an anonymous story from one of my friends:

I have taken Triple Science, Geography, Art and Computing. They let me do this with out warning me or coming to see me. Many many months later (much after when most people with option problems had already been spoken too) Mr [management name redacted] (I couldn't care less how it's spelt) tells me that I can NOT take both Art and Computing, as they are both part of the metaphorical 'group'. My reserve, Music, is also in this group so that cannot be chosen. I must now pick between Art and Computing in a few days. Art is the subject I prefer, but Computing is a very handy skill, so it's kind of a catch 22. Also, once I pick which one I want to take I must now pick from the select few subjects I am actually aloud to take. 2 of the subjects I could choose are French or Spanish. Mr [management name redacted] continued to pressure me, saying that I should take a language as I am capable of it and I "might not get into uni" If I don't take one. That is a direct quote. Not only did that freak me the fuck out, but my anxiety began to make it difficult for me to get my point across, which is that University's do not care about baccalaureates (When you take 3 Sciences, Math, English, a humanity and a Language), they look at your A levels. So now I'm stuck losing my shit and am completely left in the dark by the school. Thanks [school redacted]

He's getting better grades than me in most things.

Sig under construction.
