Ketonatus for cleaning CPU?

Hi guys,

 

I'm looking for something to clean my processor, but Ï can't find anywhere I can buy it (only online, but then I pay a lot for shipping).

I did find something called Ketonatus alcohol, which consists of 96% alcohol, and I was wondering if I could use this as well.

Isopropylic alcohol is your friend. It's cheap and should be easy to find at any hardware store

Not where I'm from for some reason. I've been to pharmacies, hardware stores and some electronics shops but no luck.

Buy some from amazon.de maybe? I dunno. It is possible to clean your CPU with dry tissues/whatever if you're really thorough, I would prefer to do that, than to put some unknown substance on my cpu.

I heard about people using home-made alcohol that was 50% and it worked just fine. I personally use pure alcohol, but my mum is a doctor and knows where to get it.

Pharmacies sell a form of isopropyl alcohol as rubbing alcohol, which is a mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol. I wouldn't recommend using that to clean electronics.

 

Since it's a very common solvent used in electronics and mechanical work, you're bound to find it somewhere. Perhaps under some branded name (check the solvents aisle at the hardware store). You'll just have to keep looking, I suppose

another option is to buy a big thing of hand sanitizer.

watch this:

 

pour hand sanitizer in pan,

add heaps of salt,

watch gel turn into a liquid.

see salt form clouds.

(the clouds are a precipitant of the salt and the gelling chemical)

see clear liquid

(clear liquid is nearly 99% ethanol)

filter out cloudy liquid first by fine coffee filter.

proceed to distill clear liquid out of cloudy liquid.

extract 99% ethanol

???

PROFIT!

 

you now have super strong alcohol. clean everything with it.

or drink it and get wasted within 2 shots.

 

if you drink it be sure to throw out the first 4-6ozs in case methanol was formed.

you should still end up with at least a cup of near pure ethanol.

 

(you shouldn't drink this stuff though.)

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I really wouldn't recommend that. Safer and easier to just use the denatured ethanol. Hand sanitizer can contain a range of different chemicals, so you don't really know what you're dealing with and what you'd get out of that purification protocol.

but hey, if you can't buy it, make it.

 

you know, gasoline or kerosine would work just as well too.

just get a cotton ball and start rubbing!

What really matters is that it will evaporate completely, and I'm fairly sure this would. Just make sure to let it sit long enough to evaporate, and I'd recommend wiping it off afterward with a lint-free cloth.

 

Interestingly when I Google "ketonatus alcohol" I get mostly Dutch sites. Must be a popular product over there.  :P
