Hello everyone, this is note really a topic just a quick question.

I have a CM V850 PSU in a thermaltek v71 case (http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model_gallery.aspx?id=C_00002231),

and i was wondering should the PSU face up or down? In the past i owned a CM HAF 912 with a gx 750 psu which was facing down.

My current setup has the PSU facing down since the case has nice dust filters and cut out for the PSU fan.

Doesn't matter at all.

Whoever is telling you that it would make any difference, is just... I would have to use evil words here.. A lot of them  <_<

I'd still have the PSU facing upwards, simply because it looks better imo. Not for any other reason.

As long as your PC isn't on the carpet, it doesn't matter. If it is, then face up.

No one told me i was just wondering after 6-7 years of doing it might be done better by facing upwards.

Still thanks for the speedy and insightful reply!

Nah its on parquet, so i just tilt the case and vacuum it (usually its the worst spot for dust build up on the case)

depends on your case, and what you have it in... Do you have any super high heat output parts? otherwise I would say it doesn't matter

Yeah, I wrote it wrong. I should've written: "If someone is telling you it would make any difference, the person is..."

Anyway, np. :)

depends a bit on the case.

If your case has bottom mount, which all modern ATX cases mostly have.

And you have a dust filter underneath, then its basicly better to face it with the fan downwards.

Because the fan will suck air in from the bottom, and will exhaust through the back of the psu.

So it creats its own little airflow.

Also using a pc on carpet is never realy a great idea.

If the bottom of your case is vented with a good PSU filter, then place it face down

If unvented or vented with no PSU filter, then place it face up

P.S. Even if you have good enough spacing between the carpet and the PSU filter, place it face down. its still easier to replace or clean a filter then replace a PSU that gets faulty from case heat.

As said, it has minor effect on anything. Only other component which could be effected is GPU. So if you are using multi-GPU or GPU is for some reason placed really close (bottom slots) to PSU, have fan suck air under the case and not compete over it with GPU.

Rule of thumb: If your case has a dust filter at the bottom, face the power supply's fan down. If it doesn't, face it up.

I think there is a point that when you are considering overall airflow, if the PSU is facing up you gotta consider it as exhaust and if you got neutral airflow it could turn it to slightly negative. I keep it facing down simply for that, it's simpler...

Just be aware where you might be placing your computer. It's bad if your case doesn't have feet to elevate it higher off the surface and or of its in a carpet.

I just changed mine to face up since I didn't want to restrict its airflow in any way with filters.  I have plenty of filtered intakes, so it gets plenty of clean air without robbing my other compontents of airflow

edit: plus I like the way it looks facing up. mine has a led fan that illuminates my gpu
