Would there be any problem with putting lights in speakers so they shine out the port hole?

And would there be a way I could hook them up to receiver power from the speaker wire?

KipKay did a video on that. Anything under 12 Volts would be fine. How big are the speaker?

What kind of speakers are you doing? This would be awesome if they're in plain sight.

I imagine that it might vibrate slightly under loud volumes, however.

It works, but you cant use the speaker wires

LEDs will not work with AC voltage

you need separate power for the lights

You could just wire up some leds inside the speakers. I would not recommend connection anything to the Receiver like that.

im pretty sure you can......if you plug it directly to the bass you can also get it to pulsate with the music.

I've done it before and it works fine

LEDs are a directional diode and will only work with voltage going in one direction

speaker power is an AC sine wave

ac = alternating Dc Right?

ac = alternating

dc = direct

ac switches between + and - voltage contrantly

So your saying this is impossible?

LEds use DC

AC= alternating DC*

so it should light up. cause sometimes it will be the right polarity

I tried it. Kinda flickered. Then I burnt it out.

I don't think it was an led, think it was a tiny other thing

I have LED strips connected to some bookshelf speakers I have downstairs, and they will flash to the sound when turned up to a decent volume, so no.

so you just connect one wire to +, one wire to -?

why do you think they are flashing...

because the LED will only turn on when voltage is going one way and not the other

you cant make them stop flashing and you cant make them light up without sound

I'm talking about making a light stay on CONSTANTLY

not flash whenever sound is being played

why u want that xD then yea find another power source

the point of it being connected to speakers is for it too flash. like in the video i linked the light won't turn off it just dims.

Yeah, + goes to red terminal and - goes to black.

Yes, that's what I was going for. I think if @spwath wanted to connect them to the speaker terminals that it'd be common sense they'd have to flash to the beat, they can't be on continuously.

because flashing speakers are a distraction and some people want ambient lighting....?

also it should not dim

it should go off

if it dims that means there is still power going through the speakers which there should never be when nothing is playing
